Sharp Park Clears Another Hurdle
« on: March 28, 2014, 01:39:33 PM »
Thanks to the efforts of Richard Harris & Bo Links, plans to remediate wetlands areas within the Sharp Park golf course were approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors earlier this week.

The fund raising tournament for Sharp Park this year will be held May 31:

David, thanks for the heads up on Sharp,  Good news, even if it does just set up another appeal. Sadly and ironically funny (is there a word for that? There should be.) but if that golf course was never there in the first place, the frogs and snakes would be fossils under housing foundations.

I hope they started working as soon as the judgement came through.  It wouldn't surprise me if the Wild Equity Institute sought an immediate injunction in the courts.

For those who don't know, the environmental groups who have lost every case, action and a Federal lawsuit have changed course.  What they are now trying to do is choke off the pumping station to the irrigation system so the golf course cannot be watered.  This action 2 days ago is the approval to clean out the reeds and sediment which are starting to hinder the pumping station.   The environmentalists are seeking a full environmental impact report (basically a micro version) which has already been completed (on a macro level).

John C-S,

I have "Midnight Blue" on CD, but I still have the original Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane album (recorded for Prestige) on vinyl.

Those people are absolutely sickening out there. No mention of the architectural brilliance of the place. Not even a mention of Mackenzie.

They're so intellectually dishonest.

Interesting point.  You have to wonder what the real agenda is.

After all of the injunctions and the Federal lawsuit (which again they lost) they sued the city of San Francisco for $1.3 million in legal fees.  The Federal judge granted them $327,000 and $59,000 in compensation costs.

Mark Hissey -

I am a little curious, who do you mean when you refer to "those people?"

Seriously (ignore my last post), I would like to support this effort.

David,

Please send me any films/videos and I will see what I can do. I grew up on Cobbs Creek and Walnut Lane and love San Francisco area and would love to help.

I'm assuming he means the Wild Equity Institute.   At least I hope so.

The group who have opposed this. Look at their website. It's pretty incredible how they neglect the history and the architecture of the place.

I've got a pretty good track record when it comes to the environment. I think it works perfectly with golf. But my experience has also been that there is an awful lot of dishonesty and lack of science in some of the claims made by these environmental groups.

Just played Sharp a week before this thread was started. What a little gem. Looking forward to seeing the restoration plans moving forward
