I just went back and double-checked:  the guys who made the cut were 3-under on #5 yesterday.

That Pat Mucci is a hell of an analyst.

Or, a really good gambler.

Or both  ;D

This was a fun thread. It came down to the final group. I think, in the end, that Pat was correct about the difficulty of the tee shot causing many of the problems there. It would be interesting to see how the guys that hit the fairway fared. It goes to show just how hard this course plays for everyone that's not playing their very best (even with an incredibly easy pin). Tom, good observation from Verplank about that very thing.

I have always wanted to see that green pinned on the front which should indeed be great fun to watch!  However, I would say that the tee shot is the most daunting aspect of #5...as fantastic as that green is.  I think it will play very close to an average of par.  Not sure I would bet on the entire field posting a sub-par average.
