Augusta Short Course

Geoff Shack posted an article about this last night. I have not yet read the Golf World article but it looks pretty interesting. Here are the links:

This is amazing. I wish that this was the Par 3 at Augusta. I like the use of double greens as a way to reduce maintenance and the amount of area needed. Imagine during the Par 3 contest Ben Crenshaw and Adam Scott on the same green. Such a cool concept to bad about how the financial market collapsed leaving the club in tough straghts.

Here's my crazy theory. With the new land acquisitions and the pending relocation of Berckmans Road, the club could relocate the parking lot and the public entrance to the Washington Road side. This way they could have enough land on the western side of the course to try to replicate MacKenzie's ideas there...

 ??? ;D

Very good stuff , thank you !

I was in the mix at Pine Valley when past chairman Ernie Ransome  decided to explore the possibilities of a short course at Pine Valley . interesting that Ransome and Tom Fazio used the idea espoused by Mackenzie to recreate shots found on their golf course . Can't ask Mr. Ransome  (R.I.P.) but will try to find whether the writings influenced their decisions on building the "Short Course" .

Geoff Shackelford wrote a piece in Golf Digest last year about using the land west of Berckmans Rd. as a kids golf course for the first tee of Augusta. I think that's a great idea. I believe it's doubtful they would rebuilt the current par 3 to mimic the Mackenzie Plan, but they could use this land for that purpose.

In fact, I think designing an Augusta National Children's Course would be a great armchair architects contest.

Maybe this could be something like the Balgove course at St. Andrews. Which is used as a parking lot during the big tournaments.
