The 2014 Golfweek Architectural Summit
« on: April 01, 2014, 10:06:59 AM »
All
In my most recent Golfweek, I saw an ad for the 2014 Golfweek Architectural Summit to be held at Kiawah, honoring Pete and Alice Dye, in November.  Many designers are going to be there as keynote speakers.  When I clicked on to sign up, the cost involved was between $1700-2195.  Since I live within driving distance of Kiawah, I inquired the price without accomodations.  The price was still quite high.

Maybe it's me, but I thought that Golfweek has been blowing the trumpet of growing the game, and getting more people involved.  Golf has been kind of stagnant the past couple of years, and has been asking everyone their ideas on getting people on the golf course.  One of the things identified that has kept golf back has been costs.  Maybe at past conferences, they have not had a problem getting attendees, but because of the cost involved, unfortunately, I will not be able to attend.

That sounds about like the pricing for normal trip to Kiawah considering room, food and some golf.  Any extra probably goes to renting the meeting rooms for the panel discussions.

I am not sure what you would have GolfWeek do about the cost.  Would you have them subsidize the cost of the event so participants could pay less than market?  Would that be some kind of philanthropy to grow the game?

I was at Kiawah last week- played The Ocean Course, dined at the Sanctuary. The entire experience is well worth the cost. It was a first class experience from top to bottom. The golf is very good- I hope to make it to The Architectural Meeting. Pete Dye is not going to be around forever and as we saw last week with George Bahto's passing you have to keep that in mind. If it works into one's budget the Summit will be a memorable trip.

I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.
