Geoff Shackelford shared the rumor today, but @PGATour confirmed my tweet this morning.

Eagle Point, Top 100 in Wilmington NC, will host the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship.

Turns out that PGA Championship will be at Quail Hollow that year and to ensure QH is focused only on that major, Eagle Point was selected for only 1 year as an alternate site.'

A big win for Wilmington - should be a fun year to attend the event.

LOTS of politics involved on this one.  In the end, seems pretty clear that Johnny Harris won a battle of wills.  Eagle Point is a fine golf course, although I think that is almost beside the point as it relates to the decision.  It will, however, be interesting to see how they get people to and from the course since there is only one entry into the club and it is off of a rather narrow dead end road.

Ed,
Agree, Logistics at EP will be challenging to say the least. Where are you going to turn shuttle busses around? Unless you circle them thru the neighborhood, which I found by a wrong turn upon leaving the club.
    Do they make 18 a par 4?
I always assumed Carmel South got the event for a year. Infrastructure, near Quail, still in Charlotte, clubhouse. Or CCC.Or my favorite we talked about, CAROLINA. Set up the train entry for spectators. Alas, Roger doesn't share my excitement for this "Fenway Park" venue.
     Will be interesting.

Ed, not to be a cynic, but what about the land around?  Ripe for development, or not?  If so, could this be a way for developers (e.g., JH) to get local boosters to join with them for new roads at public expense?  I have absolutely no idea and have not done the Google satelite thing.

Nor, as a CGC member, do I.  It would be fun to see a tough set-up on the course, but where would you put the spectators who arrive by train?  Dream on.
