Do you find the NGF reports to be legitimate?  I've seen some reports recently that seem to paint a much, much better picture of the health of golf in the USA than my personal experience would suggest.

If I recall correctly, the report I saw implied that the number of people thinking about joining a private club is roughly equal to the number actually in clubs today.   I just can't see how that can be.

If they're painting an overly optimistic picture of golf, could that possibly be causing owners to build more new golf courses than we really need?

Thinking?  I'm thinking of a lot of things but that doesn't mean they are gonna happen.

Fifteen years ago they were wildly optimistic, and contributed to the development of too many courses in a short period.  So most people take their advice with caution now.  But I don't see how they can be guilty of promoting overdevelopment today, with hardly any new courses being built.

Well if you keep spouting the same information, eventually it will be accurate.......
"Let's slow the damned greens down a bit, not take the character out of them." Tom Doak
"Take their focus off the grass and put it squarely on interesting golf." Don Mahaffey
