Steve:

Thanks for the update -- RD can be very special -- but the turf situation has been and appears to be a continuing issue.

Just played Running Deer this afternoon for first time. It was aerated two weeks ago and was just about fully recovered. Overall it was in very good shape and it is an original, that is for sure. If it wasn't in the middle of nowhere, I would go back soon. Still it is worth a couple of trips a year from Philly environs. Great variety of short and long holes, moderate elevation changes, terrific, undulating multi-tiered greens, good use of a few water hazards and natural land hazards. Greens were a little  furry and bumpy from aeration, but still ran fine. In a couple of weeks. should be in excellent shape.  Ton of fun, not your ordinary golf course.

Count me as a fan of Running Deer.  These pics from a couple of years ago:

Thanks for posting the great pictorial. The pictures make me want to run back there! I would only add that as terrific as the pictures are, one can really  appreciate the contours, undulations, and elevation changes in person.

Haven't played Running Deer in years but it was definitely the last course where I had to use wedge on the green. #13, I think?

Have always loved the third green site and surrounds.

Great memory Mark. Happened to us yesterday - but it was the par 3 7th - pin was back right and we were back left with tee shots. Wedge was right play, but we opted to putt through about 15 feet of fringe instead - ended up 15 feet below hole or so. Tried a few times and best we could do with a putter was 5 feet below hole.
