Guess the course
« on: September 12, 2014, 07:50:50 PM »
Will be really surprised if more than a few GCAers have played this course.  However, a little bit of observation should help identify the architect and then some reasoning will be required.  This registers very high on the fun scale.  For architecture study, this might be worth a visit.

Do I get bonus points if I give you the original name?
Golf history can be quite interesting if you just let your favorite legends go and allow the truth to take you where it will.

The second picture shows the first of two back-to-back par 3s, I think.  The front nine, which is shorter than the back, also has back-to-back par 5s.

Am I thinking of the right place?

This is a very fun course that is always overlooked in the conversation about LA clubs. Though not LACC,  there are some tremendous holes on a tract of land that makes walking 3 hour rounds a reality.  And anyone who thinks Bell made so so greens as far as contouring goes, needs to play these gems.  Jeff is spot on in the pick.  David knows this place better than anyone on the site.

Hint: same designer as LACC-N, Riviera, and Otai...

Another hint: bunkering was redone by Geoff Shackelford
“One natural hazard, however, which is more
or less of a nuisance, is water. Water hazards
absolutely prohibit the recovery shot, perhaps
the best shot in the game.” —William Flynn, golf
course architect

La Cumbre? I know Geoff redid all the bunkers there.

No green by a chain link fence at La Cumbre.
