I don't really like Hawaii golf much but there are a few bargain basement courses that make for a nice walk. Nine Hole Cavendish Golf Course in Lanai City, HI, built by a Dole supervisor in the 1940's. Now owned by the city with greens (sometimes) maintained by the adjacent Experience at Koele and virtually no maintenance anywhere else. No pro shop. If you ask the locals the course is free, but there is a drop box and I have heard $10 recommended. Some the holes are actually pretty good and it is a pleasant peaceful place for a quick nine. This may not be saying much, but I'd rather play there than the adjacent nine at the Experience at Koele even if the resort course was similarly priced. Conditions are bad but the experience worth repeating.
Similarly, there is another 9 hole former plantation course on Kauai called Kukuiolono (1920's or earlier) where the green fee is something like $18. Gets more play than Cavendish, and some of the holes are pretty bad, but some are decent and the wind blows and there is plenty of width and the distance views are great.
If you flew to Hawaii to play one of these gems and stayed at a high end resort you could probably make both lists.
