Name That Course/Hole~New York state version COMPLETED
« on: December 07, 2013, 07:58:31 PM »
Toronto long ago outgrew its US neighbor and that Saltzman guy has outgrown me in terms of quantity. Here's hoping my quality stacks up to his. Nine New York state images to start. There are no repeat courses herein.

HINT HOLE # 7: This hole is at a mainland, eastern NY course, not near any metropolis. It was in DESperate need of renovation and two fellows did a FINE job using their WIT.

HINT HOLE # 28: This hole is not an original at this course. It is one of five new holes at a really neat western New York course. The tree removal behind the green revealed the view of the train trestle. Of course, to hit the bridge with a ball you'd need a little SPRING in your swing..

HINT HOLE # 30: This hole is found on one of two courses that make up a 36-hole complex. The course avails itself of the ups and downs inherent to the region. In fact, you could call the course an institution of sorts. The architect worked on the Pittsburgh Field Club and the Augusta National. All it takes is a little zen (or is it spelled xen?)

HINT HOLE # 31: This hole is a William F. Mitchell design and is the only one of the fourth nine not found in western New York. A little bit of Dirty Dancing gets you to the course, but finding the hole might be a challenge, as the joint is currently between owners.

HINT HOLE # 35: Before he left for Carnoustie in 1953 (kind of a big event), Ben Hogan teamed with Sam Urzetta in a match he lost to Toby Lyons and Jay Hebert at this golf course. Here is a photo of the four of them.

HINT HOLE # 36: This one surprised me, until I considered the angle from which I shot the picture. Donald Ross, recently restored by Team Ron Forse, but which hole?

Well, I'm not sure I've been to any, but I think #1 is Paramount and #9 is Fenway.

I'll avoid any of the "local" NY courses, but feel like it's fair to guess on my "one-visit" courses:

#1 - Have to recuse myself from naming the hole since I'm in the photo.

#5 - looks like #2 at Mohawk

#8 - Those greens scream of Travis and CC of Troy.  #8 (taken from 9th tee?)

My day at Paramount was the day that my camera crapped out after the first green. Last time I ever went somewhere without a back-up lens.

Am I correct that one of these is Links at Union Vale (18th Green)?  If so, I'll let someone else pick it out.

Yes, my vulgar, northern friend...The Bridge is quite metamorphosed. Jeff Warne and I are working on a thread, due out by late December.

#6 has the "RTJ Runway" Tee Marker set-up, but doesn't seem to be from the course I'm thinking of.

#4 reminds me of some looks at Sheridan Park, in Tonawanda, NY
Inverness (Toledo, OH) cathedral clock inscription: "God measures men by what they are. Not what they in wealth possess.  That vibrant message chimes afar.
The voice of Inverness"

so ...

I was thinking that it might be #3 at Seven Oaks, but I recall the hole being tighter and more dense on the left.  I must have been disoriented from my 6-putt on the previous green.

#4 looks like a hole played from one side of a valley to another.  Am I on the right track?

Course 20: Hole 14 at Oak Hill CC (East)
Course 23: Hole 14 at Timber Banks GC
Course 25: Hole 14 at Lafayette CC (now closed)
Course 27: Hole 15 at Oak Hill CC (West)

Course 11 I'm fairly sure is hole 14 at Cornell (not 9).

I guess I know my hole 14's.
