ORCA opposes this golf course proposal. It takes a big chunk of coastal farmland out of production; fails to protect important natural resources in the area, such as the riparian areas and bottomlands of the Elk River, to safeguard its salmon runs; and will provide no sustainable, longterm economic benefit. The residents of the Port Orford and north Curry County area deserve better than this for the community's future.

The Curry County Commission will deliberate and make an oral decision on Wednesday, January 7 before their monrning meeing, with the written decision posted on Jan. 15.

Assuming the Commission says yes to the golf course, the decision will ultimately be appealed by the enviro group ORCA, and the buck will be passed to the Oregon Land Use Appeal Board (LUBA).

Deep in the article it says that arguments in front of Oregon's Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA) is scheduled for this Thursday and a decision is to be made within 30 days of the arguments.

NOTE: I just searched LUBA's website but nothing was listed; however, that website is only updated through April 7th.
UPDATE: Hearing started at 9am in the basement of the Agriculture Bldg -Oregon Coastal Alliance vs Curry County

Also, they are looking for investors if there is a positive outcome

Thanks to all for your interest in our project down the Oregon Coast.

We had very good news today from LUBA (Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals).

At the risk of sounding overly legal, all of the Petitioner's (ORCA) "Assignments of Error" were denied by LUBA, excepting one regarding the "design capacity" of the clubhouse. Apparently "Design Capacity" is a term not well defined at the County level, and was difficult for LUBA to get past its lack of clarity.  In short, our very capable and affable council (Nick Klingensmith and Bill Kloos of Land Use Oregon) prevailed on all other matters and we are thrilled. We will be re-designing the clubhouse to meet the necessary requirements, and best satisfy the ambiguous "design capacity" language as we return to Curry Co for Clubhouse review.   

We are exited that you will be learning more about our project throughout the summer, and fully expect to be underway soon.

Remind me to never contribute money to the Oregon Coast Alliance. Total obstructionists. Back to LUBA for a hearing Thursday, concerning occupancy levels of the clubhouse. LUBA has thirty days to rule.

The appeal failed.
From the Eugene Register Guard:
The proposed Pacific Gales Golf Course north of Port Orford has survived efforts by the watchdog Oregon Coast Alliance to thwart the project and now will renew efforts to secure financial backing.

In January, the State Land Use Board of Appeals issued its third ruling on the project, upholding the decision by Curry County to approve the proposed size of the course’s clubhouse. A Pacific Gales spokesman said the course now has the necessary land-use permits to begin construction, with the goal of starting later this year toward an opening in late 2018.

John, Dave Esler is the architect attached to Pacific Gales.  I'm sure he has some idea of a routing, however i don't think there is anything has been published yet.

I saw a routing plan on 1/11/14 at a community meeting in Port Orford, but can't find any picture of it in my files. It has probably been extensively revised over the two years, staying further away from wetlands. 4-5 holes on the coast, spread over both 9s. The north 9 had an inland counterclockwise loop. 9/18 a double green, with clubhouse overlooking. The south nine inland holes seemed to be over good golfing terrain. I have never been on property.  Look at my reply #77 near the top of page 4.

I'm curious if there is any update on Pacific Gales?  Has anyone on GCA joined the Founders Club and thus getting updates?  I spoke with Darin at Pacific Gales a year ago, but haven't heard if given the most recent news from their Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals if they have started any construction.

Here is an image I was able to dig up a few years ago.  I got way down deep in pdf files of the approval process.  Public records stuff.  Found this routing plan, which I darkened slightly so you can see the fairways, tees, and greens.
