Steve,
If the dates really are late April, as Pat has suggested but not confirmed, the selection committee will have to rely heavily on the prior year's results. This falls before NCAA's or even Regionals in 2021. Basically zero chance of a mid-am or Northern College player playing their way on to the team with a great performance over the final month or so of selection.
Sure, the top 20 or so players will be known and pretty much the same, but picking the ones most likely on form will be near impossible.
Why would the Spring be better than the late fall?

Golf course wise the course is way better in late April or early May. I was fortunate enough to caddie there for two seasons over ten years ago and have played there many times since and it always plays firm and fast that time of year given the usual lack of rain as compared to the summer months. Team wise the best players most likely will get picked but it the selection committee will have limited big events just prior to that to help pick....most of the team are college guys and will have been playing all spring anyway. As far as mid ams, nobody typically gives them a chance anyway (look at this year) but they came up big for the US in securing the cup. Good players are going to be picked and those players will be ready.
