Walker Cup Candidates
« on: November 13, 2013, 11:01:24 AM »
Here's an exercise: You may not pick any of the previous USA Walker Cup sites. You may only pick one site per state and you may only pick fifteen states. List fifteen clubs/courses that would be perfect hosts for the Walker Cup in the USA. Here is the list of courses that may not be chosen. Seminole has been included as supposed site for 2021. I'll compile a list as well.

Prairie Dunes - KS

Past USGA Championships, host of the Big 12 Championship and 2014's NCAA Championship give it enough data points to gauge tournament readiness and it is a tremendous match play course with plenty of GCA street cred that the Walker Cup gravitates towards. Can't think of a (biased) better place for it.

How about Rat and Horn club?

Mark Mckeever,

I like Newport.

You can eliminate Everglades.

I think you can also eliminate the US Open courses like Oakmont, Baltusrol, Pinehurst, etc.,, etc..

I'll suggest North Berwick.  Course record is only 63(from memory) despite several Open Qualifiers.

For those who care about Par,  do away with calling anything a Par 5, make the 18th a Par 3 and  it's a matchplay course par excellence. ;)

I would also add Prestwick and Ballybunion to that list.
(not going to happen is it?)
Let's make GCA grate again!

Since crowds tend to be small, how about Silloth?

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I'd like to see it hosted at Town & Country Club in St. Paul, as a "make up" for the Walker Cup awarded but not hosted due to WWII. But alas even the Walker Cup has outgrown our 90 acre, 6450 yard course!

Could some of you try a little harder and not just throw one course name out? It's an exercise in discipline. Actually, you'll have to try a lot harder, with your one name and no state attached to it. Get your sh^t together, people.
