How does the 8th hole play at only 50 yards?

I tried putting down the right side of the ramp but the bottom part swung the ball left and off the green

Wow, wow and wow again.

Imagine a facility like this at your home club!

Imagine being 5-10 yrs old - in fact any age - and playing on a course like this over and over and over again, all day long - and there's the Punchbowl as well.

Golfing bliss. Well done Bandon!

All the best.

I am looking through these amazing images of wonderland thinking WOW

I see the comments and the one word that appears is WOW

if we could build this type of FUN course to introduce kids to the game near major cities it would certainly inspire kids to play

It is a blast to play. Great greens and surrounds. Remarkably it has a lot of room to play. The views and the look of each hole is quite stunning. There are a lot of teeing areas to spread the play.

Bandon Preserve and The Punchbowl keep Bandon raising the bar as an outstanding golf resort.

Nice lead-in to my question...

For how many of these holes is it realistic to hit your tee shot with your putter? Looks like a few of them.

Sun and no wind! Ok I give up, how'd you manage that effect? Let me guess they were water skiing out on the lake shown in some of your photos as well?

It's hard for me to imagine Bandon without wind, I'm not sure what I'd do.

Great photos.

Lake ???

Mark, I'm from Oregon. I know a lake when I see one.

Show me a day when there's no wind at Bandon and I'll show you a big lake ready for water skiing. If you have a nice dry suit that is.

Between the Preserve and the Punchbowl, I can't imagine a better spot for gambling and/or drinking.  Some interesting shot/club selection decisions in your typical 3-club summer wind.  A pity it was only in grow-in during my last visit...

As if I didn't already want to go to Bandon, this has upped the ante. I have to play this. The greens look pretty big given the length of the holes, but oh my god if you miss them!

I will also reiterate what others have said about how much more kids would be into it if they could play a course like this when they're starting. I reckon I could play this every day and my wedge game would be pretty good too.

Half in jest, a little while ago I sugested the best pitch and putt course on the planet could be found right next to Hayling Golf Club. I hereby withdraw that claim! (although I still think the second hole at Hayling to be a worthy contender in this mix).

The "best" contender to Bandon Preserve is The Needler at Whispering Pines in Texas. Really cool par three course with "the largest green in the world" on hole #4/#8. It really looked spectacular.

Also a semi-serious question:

Is there any hole at the Preserve worthy of "best par 3 at Bandon?"

It looks really fun regardless...just wondering.

Nice photos mark.

How does the 8th hole play at only 50 yards?

The 8th was one of my favorite holes.  As one other person mentioned anything left of the mound keeps going way left so if the pin is over the mound you just have to hit it high and hope your distance is right.

If the course isn't busy, the 10th or 11th green is next to the 2nd tee.  I'm sure bandon would not condone this, but it is pretty fun to make a second loop for a few bonus holes!!!

Someone asked how many holes can be played with a putter.  I think someone told us the course record with a putter is something like 23 or 24...maybe less.

Do you putt with the flask or the flange?   ;D

I was lucky enough to chat with Grant Rodgers for about an hour last time I was there. I think he has the putter-only record of -2 or -3.
