You can't really see them when you are playing, but my civilian friends watching on television are most curious.

When the sea is up, that coastline gets a hammering. You only need one storm to lose a coastline.

Didn't they lose much of the 18th fairway trap and fairway about 15 years ago? And not for the first time.

I have not played PBGL but the fifth hole looks particularly contrived with the extended tee box.

The previous Japanese owner was a great steward of the property. They not only re-built the retaining wall on the 18th, but added other faux cliff walls on other susceptible spots along the coast.

What is there now is only the beginning.  Eventually, another "Hoover Dam" will be required as sea level rises and storms intensify.

All things considered I'd say they've done a fine job, especially considering that you don't really see most of it when you're on the course...the 18th being the exception.

Its a simple question really.  Would you rather PB not exist.. or be exposed to looking at faux rock and stone retaining walls a few times?

The 5th was added by Jack Nicklaus in the 1990s. The resort finally acquired that piece of property and, well, read this ...
