Since this thread has taken a slight, and equally interesting turn, I will relate this:

Three of our longest-standing members had never made an ace. All three grew up together playing the course as young kids and are now in their 50s. All are single-digit players, and all are former club champions. Last year, one of those three finally made a hole-in-one. Then he made another one. This year, two more.

He didn't get any better -- his time finally came.

At some point when I was so much out of shape I couldn't hit a ball. then I was back to the gym and playing in a couple months.

I think I can't lose interest when it comes to golf, since it is so much more to me than just playing and keeping my score: it's traveling and seeing the world around me, meeting other people and studying life, enjoying the nature, the history, the beautiful views and the pure aesthetics of great golf course architecture. It's also teaching others, studying biomechanichs, physics and so much more. You can't really get enough of this.

Speaking of hole in ones, personally I've not had my share yet, hit the pin numerous times, twice I thought I had them as the ball seemed to disappear into the hole. One time it rolled down a small slope out of view the other time was right behind the pin. I'm sure we've all had those.

I did hole out for eagle two weeks ago which in and of itself is fun but what made it personally spectacular was that it was into a windforce 6 headwind off a down hill like from 160 meters out to a raised green and back pin position. One bounce and then disappeared.

Anyhow that was not the point, this is. A buddy of mine aced #8 at Oakmont from the back tees in a tournament this weekend. 296 yds, 3 wood.

I guess you have hole in ones and you have hole in ones....
