Semi-OT--Punta Espada/Cap Cana
« on: October 08, 2013, 03:02:25 PM »
I've been to the Domincan Republic a couple of times, but it's been about a decade, and the last trip was before the Punta Espada course was built.  There are obviously lots of resorts in that part of the DR; for those who have been, which are closest to Punta Espada?  Are there any where you can rent houses or villas?
Thanks in advance.

There are multiple resorts within the Cap Cana development where Punta Espada is located.  A quick search of VRBO.com also shows a number of houses/villas that can be rented in that development as well.  The other big development down there from a golf standpoint is the PuntaCana Resort, which has a Westin as well as a smaller resort called Tortuga Bay.  My wife and I stayed at Tortuga Bay a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.  I had that resort arrange for transportation to and from Punta Espada, couldn't have been more than a 15 minute drive each way.

Didn't see this coming!  ;D

Carl - Cap Cana would be the closest, then Punta Cana (as Amol noted, Tortuga Bay is very close).

As a side note and especially if you're planning to play Dye Fore or any of the Casa de Campo courses, the new highway from Punta Cana to La Romana has shortened that trip to about 45 minutes by car.

Carl,

If you are condsidering renting villas down here in the Punta Cana, your best bet would be here at Puntacana Resort and Club.  send me an email or send me a private message and I can give you further details and move you in the right direction.

Thanks

Carl,

Most resorts in the area down there, whether they are affiliated with Punta Espada or not, will be able to arrange transportation and play.  I stayed up in the Bavaro beach area in August, and was able to get a rate that included transportation for less than the stated green fee on Punta Espada's site.  Well worth playing.  Drive down and play Teeth of the Dog as well.

Jay,

Unfortunately when I visited the La Romana area, Dye Fore wasn't built yet.  The land looked really interesting however.  I did see La Romana Country Club however, and that is worth playing if in the immediate area.  Or at least it was 15 years ago.  Really, really liked Teeth of the Dog.

La Romana is a really solid golf course...underrated too.  I love the new nine.
