Chicago GCA Fall Outings - Up next, Kankakee Elks (26th)
« on: October 03, 2013, 09:31:28 PM »
Is anyone up for another Chicagoland fall get together? In the past we've had pretty good turnouts and excellent weather. I wasn't able to make it to last year's trek up to Spring Valley, but I heard it was a great time.

We are set for the following:

Sunday, Oct. 13 at Mistwood GC (Ray Hearn) at 10 and 10:10 a.m.

In:
Jack Crisham
John McCarthy
Matt Sander
Scott Wintersteen
Bill Seitz
Steve Salmen

Saturday, Oct. 26 at Kankakee Elks (Langford & Moreau) - three starting times beginning at 10 a.m.

In:
Mark Smolens
Jud Tigerman
Howard Riefs +1
Sven Nilsen
Matt Sander
Bryan Sander
Chris DeToro
Jim Tang
Kevin Cahoon
Bill Seitz

We have room for more so just let me know if you are interested...thanks!

Matt,

  How about Mistwood?

I guess that makes perfect sense considering the thread I just bumped earlier this evening. I'd be up for that if others are interested...

EDIT: On second thought, after doing a little digging and reading the links Steve Shaffer posted on the other thread, Mistwood may not reside in this groups' wheelhouse.

How about Kankakee Elks?

Golfweek ranks it #8 among Illinois public access courses and it captures very high praise from the man in purple:

+1 for Nigel's mention of Kankakee Elks. I played there last Friday with some folks from my semi-regular Saturday game. $20 including a cart is their regular rate on Mondays and Fridays, and there's a coupon in one of those Chicagoland golf magazines for that same rate the rest of the week. Not the longest course out there, but a bunch of stout par 4s, mixed in with some cool short ones, and the set of par-3s is nothing short of fabulous. Greens were firm, quick if not lightning fast, and undulating. Short side misses were death. Can't wait to go back down there.

I'd definitely be interested in either date, weather dependent obviously.  I've heard Kankakee is supposed to be good as well.  Ravisloe, Pine Meadow or Cog Hill would be on my short list as well.

Maybe we should narrow our focus to Kankakee Elks, Pine Meadow, Or Highlands of Elgin. The long range forecast for next Sunday is 60 degrees with a 40% chance of showers, not that I put much stock in such a 10 day forecast.

What do folks think about the above options?

I would like Kankakee Elks but my wife may have made plans for me, so put me in as a maybe.

(The only venue I'm opposed to is Cog Hill Dubsdread.).

I would join you at Mistwood- would like to see the reno work. Can't do the 26th as I will be at Bandon but the 12 or 13th works good.

Is Kankakee the Langford? that would be my preference.  I can probably do the 26th but not the 13th

Jud,

Yep, Kankakee is the Langford. Keep an eye out for the date. We'll probably go with majority rule, but let's give it a couple more days to gauge the interest.

Potentially interested in the 26th, but depends on the time and my ability to get a sitter that day.

Actually, I think I can probably do both dates. Why don't we plan on the 26th at Kankakee Elks, and for those who are more partial to the 13th we can set something up at a venue TBD. After I contact the courses I'll post our tee times.

The more the merrier, so if anyone else is interested just let us know.

A quick update...

On the 26th we are set up at Kankakee Elks with three tee times beginning at 10 am. If you've expressed interest please confirm with a reply or a PM.

For those interested in playing this Sunday (13th), do you have a course preference? Dr. Crisham mentioned heading down to see the work at Mistwood. I'll check for availability there and at Pine Meadow, but in the meantime, please confirm that you are interested and a course preference if you have one.

A quick note for any Indy GCAers - Kankakee Elks is only about 2.5 hrs fom Indy, so if you're looking for something to do on the 26th and you aren't opposed to a little bit of a drive...

There should be plenty of room for either day, so if anyone else is interested, just let me know...

Listed below are those that have expressed interest so far...

Mark Smolens (26th)
Andrew Lewis (26th)
Jud Tigerman (26th)
John McCarthy (13th - in, 26th - maybe)
Howard Riefs +1 (26th)
Jack Crisham (13th)
John Heise (13th)
Chris DeToro (either date)
Sven Nilsen (26th)

Would love to join but will unfortunately be out of town that weekend.

As an aside, I've mentioned to a couple Chi-town folks about a Chi/Indy get together next spring...keep that in mind.
