Like I actually sit around and read the Wall Street Journal on the weekend:

Thanks for the link.  I can't say I read the journal on weekends either, so I am glad you shared the article.  For me, it is just another reminder that I am crazy for not yet making my way to the sand hills.  It's a must-do for 2014.  Also, got my vocabulary word of the day - lugubrious.

"Like I actually sit around and read the Wall Street Journal on the weekend:"

Michael -

I think the weekend editions (which focus on food, wine, dining, the arts, travel, sports, etc.) of both the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times are excellent. Well worth reading.

Check out the comments to the article.  Interesting.  Another form of group think?

Daryl,

I must be pretty dense but because something is absolutely correct and people agree, I cannot see it as Group Think.

You believe it is "absolutely correct" that golf will ruin the sandhills?

Not to mention, I need an entire weekend to read one issue of the WSJ! I prefer the Friday WSJ, but the weekend issue is usually pretty good too.

The problem is that "absolutely correct" and "people agree" seldom occur. People often agree with things that are absolutely incorrect, perhaps more than people agree with things that are absolutely correct. Urban legends come to mind of things the people agree on and are absolutely incorrect. After all, we all know the earth is flat. Just look out at the horizon and we can agree on that.

Thanks for the link, Mike (your non-anti-intellectual moniker!)

JP is just a better writer than most, plain and simple. He always seems to be able to tell these stories effortlessly, packing in a lot of information and nuance without a stumble and without drawing attention to himself, and manages to limit the bombast and the superlatives.
Very nice. His writing reminds me of Lorne Rubenstein's.

Bob, I think you misinterpreted my meaning.  I guess I should have been clearer in which comments I was referring to.   I meant the comments attached to the WSJ article, not the comments made on this site.
