Format: Fourball
*Flighted
*Series of 9 hole matches
*Flight winners playoff for the Nicklaus Trophy

When: Friday, June 27 to Sunday, June 29

Field: 40 Teams

Who's Playing: This list is tentative unless stated otherwise.

Fee: $575 plus tax includes: Unlimited golf on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
2 Nights accommodations in the cabins at Dismal River (Friday & Saturday nights)

Deposits: A $100.00 deposit secures your reservation for 2014. Please email me esmith@5thmajor.com for payment instructions.

Additional day(s): Those wishing to stay extra days and/or nights before or after the event should contact the club directly at 308-546-2900 or via email to Shanda at smesic@dismalriver.com . Space may be limited so be sure to check early. Regular Guest rates will apply.

Transportation: The easiest way to fly to Dismal River is via Denver International Airport. There you can rent a car and drive approximately 5 hours to DRGC. http://goo.gl/maps/KZ9B2 Many GCAers have carpooled from DIA to Dismal and I'd expect that to be the case next year as well so check back later for updates.

*Another option is to fly further on from Denver to North Platte, Nebraska via Great Lakes Air. http://greatlakes.booksecure.net/Criteria.aspx There you can rent a car and drive approximately an hour and a half to the club. Their flight schedule is limited so you'll want to check to be sure there are available flights on the dates in which you wish to travel.

Other golf courses to consider on your trip:
In Denver there is a public course by Tom Doak, CommonGround
Also in Denver is the private Coore & Crenshaw design Colorado Golf Club
About halfway to Dismal River is the private Tom Doak design, Ballyneal
Near Ogallala on Lake McConaughy, there is Bayside, which has an affordable stay and play package.
A bit further east on I-80 is Wild Horse
Next door to Dismal River is Sand Hills Golf Club
2 hours north of the club is the Prairie Club

Apologies for mucking up your thread, Eric - but it was worth it just for Mark's "isn't that what it's all about" line and for your photo; now imagining JK as part of the winning team, and dressed like that man back left in The 5th Major's official jacket!!

Eric - Website looks awesome!  Well played!

Don't know about the stripes, or jackets altogether.  Can recall seeing a jacket on property!  Hope they are "slimming"

Eric, it has been so long since I sent in the deposit, darned if I haven't forgotted the details.  So, I sent you an email, as well as one to Shanda.  I hope I signed up to add a night, Thurs.  But, I just don't remember!  ::)  I need to coordinate with my pardner way across the trench on meet-up Pre or or post event.  ;D

Everyone should know to start hydrating well ahead of their arrival. ET rates can be off the charts that time of year. I'm not sure if the region's strict definition qualifies as a high desert, but it should.

All,

If anyone is flying into North Platte on Thursday and would like to minimize the cost of a rental car please let me know. I have booked my flights and am arriving around noon and then flying out Monday around noon.

Please let me know if you are interested in riding together.

Thanks,
Jack

Adam,  I'll start drinking immediately.  Thankjs for the encouragement.  ;D

I just had a funny vision of the clubhouse great room set up like a pro sports locker-training room at half time of a big game in the heat, with guys all hooked up to I.V.s between morning and afternoon rounds.   BTW, does Chris keep a supply of anti-venom on hand?  Either for the late night wise cracks or the snakes?

If any is interested I just booked a stay and play package at Prairie Club, staying Wednesday night. Dunes course Wed 1:40, Prairie Thurs.  at 7:50am.  1-888-402-1101, ask for Sami. My room has two doubles, can room share.

Edit:
Ken Prince has joined in on the golf. He wisely chose to book his own room.

Pete  -  Last year, The Prairie Club was aerating just prior to The 5th Major.  You may want to call to check if you'll have playable greens (They advised us last year not to come out during aeration week)

They are running their Boots and Buckles tournament that weekend, so I think I'm safe.

We went to the Prairie Club last year and it was well worth the trip.  Lehman course is really good and the accommodations are real nice, food is good and staff is terrific.

Did we lose one of those gunch humps in the fairway?  I thought there were two before.  If one fell victim to the mower, I'm glad one survives as I think it adds a lot of character to the view from the tee.  I remember CJ saying he was thinking about mowing them down, and hoped I wasn't the only one standing up for them.

I will say I'm happy to see a picture posted from the top of the Horseshoe ;)

Hi all,

I will be renting a car to get to and from Dismal from Denver for the 5th Major and was hoping someone would be matching my itinerary so we could perhaps share a car, the cost and some laughs:
- Fly in to Denver at 9am on Wednesday 25th June and drive to Sand Hills.
- Drive Sand Hills to Dismal Thursday 26th June.
- Drive Dismal to Ballyneal Sunday 29th June.
- Drive Ballyneal to Denver Monday 30th June for a 10pm flight.

I know it's a long shot, but if anyone wants to join me for any or all legs of my journey let me know. I haven't yet booked a car, so if someone else has a spare seat for these legs then let me know and I could perhaps put a string of lifts together.

Cheers,

Andy (the only Australia at the 5th Major 2014... I think)
