Perhaps Mike DeVries' new project, King Island Links?  It's great to see Mike get a site like that to work on, the routing looks fantastic.

It has to be Tom Doaks new course up in Mangawhai Heads, New Zealand.  Looks pretty darn good.  I love how he just blends all the holes together.

The free flowing common areas remind me of Doak's recent work at Dismal.  So many of the holes there flow together throughout the land as fairways, green surrounds and tees flow openly.

Yes, that's Tara-Iti Golf Club, our new project in N.Z.  The eighth green is in the foreground -- a par-4 from the tee ground near the right horizon of the picture -- and the ninth green is tucked into the slot in the dunes to the left of that tee.  The isolated tree in the background is a macrocarpa that is to the left side of the eighteenth fairway, beyond the ridge that will be the clubhouse site.

Ran must have gotten the picture from Kye Goalby or from JoAnn Dost, since I have not sent out any of the course since we started.  We've completed seven holes, but are currently in a holding pattern on finishing the rest.

As far as comparisons to Chambers Bay, I don't know.  As at Dismal River [and Stone Eagle before it], what we are trying to do is connect the holes for the occasional golf cart and maintenance vehicles, while building as few paths as we possibly can.

It is not a cross between anything.  There's a lot of turf and a LOT of open, sandy area between the holes ... it is more open and sandy than any of the courses listed above, because we have to revegetate the dunes plants after clearing the pine trees, and we intend to do it as lightly as possible under the regulations, because we like the look we're getting.  We just want to stop the sand from blowing around too much.

The course is 100% fine fescue, tee to green.

Only the seven holes that are now grassed.  The remainder of the course has not been shaped yet and won't be grassed until December-March, best case, so the full course will not be ready until the end of 2014.

There aren't many more photos to post because there are only seven holes grassed.  And I would like to keep some mystery about the course until it's done.  Note that my favorite holes to this point are #2, #3, #6, #8, #9, #10, #12, #15 and #18, and you are only seeing glimpses of two of them.  [Also note that I have a lot of favorite holes, which is a pretty good sign :) ]

Beautiful pictures.  I'd like to ask a question.

What is the elevation range between the highest and lowest point?  It looks like it may only be 75-100 feet, possibly less.   In general, I consider this a good thing.
