Dunes at Seville (Just North of Tampa) to Reopen
« on: September 13, 2013, 10:02:33 AM »
With so many unfortunate stories of clubs closing these days, it's nice to see one reopen!

I would love to see someone do this with the C&C designed Sugarloaf Mtn that is just north of Orlando.

I have never played here and maybe we can get Pete B and some of the boys (and girls) to play over the holidays when we are back at Disney. Nice news.

Lots of huge fairway bunkers to practice your long bunkers shots!

The Dunes is a hidden gem- if its maintenance  budget were larger it would be right there with World Woods. Some terrific green and bunker complexes.

Awesome News!  I'm going to go out of my way to pay it another visit once the maintenance is under control.  It definitely worth the detour for me. A wonderful course laid out on beautiful hilly terrain. Best of luck to the new hands behind the wheel.

Totally agree with the comment about Sugarloaf. Never played the dunes. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I completely agree Rees and Ben.  I love Sugarloaf...I was a member (that shows you how much I loved it)...so sad it closed.  No, it was not in the upper tier of C & C designs, but for Florida it was incredibly unique.  And, I keep telling myself, if I won the lottery I would have it restored, build a small lodge, and have the biggest free GCA summit possible.

Even with the awesome addition of Streamsong Red and Blue, I still miss Sugarloaf a great deal.

Sadly, it looks like the Dunes is no more. A friend of mine who spent a few months at Sugarmill Woods said that the course wasn't open this winter and that they've only been mowing it on a bi-weekly schedule.  Too bad, it was a fun and reasonably priced place to pay.

This might be the best piece of golf land I have seen in FL.  Glad I played there last April b/c I had a feeling it might disappear in the near future.

I Worth playing, lots to like.
I think this could be outstanding with a little renovation work.
