They need a class in tying knit ties.

Some did a better job than others. Their tying skill seemed to match their age... the older the better!!!

Great link showing photos of the NGLA course. Many thanks. Looks wonderful. Hope to see lots more photographs plus TV footage of the course and the shots played.

Given the inkling shown here and recent Ryder/Solheim/Walker/Curtis Cup examples can't say I'm looking forward to seeing the team clothing at all. Reckon ideal clothing for the players of both teams to wear would be Seve look-a-like red trousers coupled with shirts similar to those worn on the final day at Brookline '99 plus Hals hat from Oakland Hills '08 oh, and flip-flops. That would be just about perfect. As to the team officials, well the Ronald McDonald look would be nice (sic).

All the best.

Ron-Keep the reports coming. Great photos from both links and a really nice narrative from the second. The weather across the sound in Connecticut today was a perfect ten and it appears that the East End had the same. NGLA is beyond special and probably not unlike the Crump Cup at Pine Valley the spectators are loving it. Twelve Hundred images is a lot of snapping and you have two days left. Imagine if you were using a 35 mm camera where you had to buy the film? Enjoy the event and continue to share your thoughts and photos. Thanks.

Funny story about the ties. Patrick Rodgers, who went to prep school and wore a tie for four years, remarked that many of his teammates approached him in desperation, bartering for his tie-tying skills.

Tim, digital photography allowed me to shoot 1500 images today. You are correct. Without memory cards, I'd not be a photographer.

Glad to see Nigel Edwards as GB&I captain.  He was a player on both matches I went to, Chicago 2005 and Newcastle 2007.  He's a gritty competitor.

Ron,
Great photos. Well done. Keep 'em coming. Out of interest, what camera/zoom are you using?
The matches are on TV in the UK via Sky from 9.00pm this evening I believe.
All the best.
PS - Those red tee markers would make great paperweights. Any chance some will be on Ebay on Monday?

Thomas,

I am shooting with two Canon cameras. I look like the guy with the small members out here. One has a 28-105mm for close and panoramic; the other has a 75-300 for distance.

The bit of the imp that remains in me wondered how quickly the eye in the sky would nab someone attempting to pinch a tee or hole marker. I suspect that they'll go to the club, unless they are property of the USGA (which is probable.)

Thank you for the encouraging words.

I took a quick look at the scores in the singles matches.  Doesn't seem that anyone is taking the course apart.  I see plenty of bogies, and a number of scores over par at this point.

Maybe NGLA is not too easy for many of the world's top ams?

I'm just looking at old GCA photo threads about NGLA while waiting for Sky TV to commence showing some of the Walker Cup play.

On thing intrigues me about the famous par-3 Redan 4th hole. Now I'm no Redan expert nor have I ever been to NGLA so here's my query.

From the tee does the flag always look like it's on the horizon of the green, almost in the water, and if so, in my ignorance of such matters, and with no slight intended, is that coincidence or quite deliberate?

I have lifted the following photo from Bill McKinleys splendid recent photo tour of Hamptons courses to indicate what I mean. I hope that's okay with you Bill, if not I'll remove it.

All the best.

Fitzpatrick against Weaver in the afternoon singles on hole 12 each got in excess of 60 yards of runout on their drives. Fast and firm is ruling the day and drying out even more as the weekend wears on. Fun to watch!
