William C. Campbell Dies at Age 90
« on: August 31, 2013, 10:31:15 AM »
William C. Campbell, a three-time USGA champion and the only individual in history to serve as both USGA President and R&A Captain, passed away on Friday at the age of 90. We look back at his contributions to the game of golf, as both a competitor and leader in the game.

Mr. Campbell was one the game's great champions and finest gentlemen,” said USGA Executive Director Mike Davis. “His contributions to amateur golf and to the USGA have been many and profound. We owe a great debt of gratitude for his outstanding example and generosity of spirit. In so many respects, he represented all that was best about our game.”

Amazing man indeed. He won the 1964 US Am at Canterbury and some of our members went down to visit him this year. He still remembered EVERYTHING about the week. Class act for sure. I can't say enough good things about him
