Nashville Golf Options
« on: August 14, 2013, 05:49:45 AM »
I am going to be in Nashville this weekend with some free time on Firday afternoon and Saturday morning. I've been searching the forum and most people don't seem to be thrilled about Nashville golf. What courses are worth playing? Is Legends still semi-private because it doesn't say on its website? I'm willing to drive a little bit, but probably don't want to make a three hour drive each way to play Holston Hills (even though I really like that course).

Steve, Legends has been fully private for several years.  Friday afternoon and Saturday morning will be challenging as most of the local clubs worth playing have full memberships.  I'm very impressed with the work Bruce Hepner did at Hillwood and would consider it the equal of Belle Meade where all Rees Jones did was make it harder, in my opinion.  Legends Club North is an interesting course with several good short par fours.  I'm out of town but will be in the office tomorrow.  I'll put in a couple of calls to see if either's possible.

I'd rather play The Golf Club, but Hillwood is a close second--ahead of Belle Meade.

I'm not sure how much you would be interested in some extra driving, but Sewanee is not much over an hour from southeast Nashville, and would be a lot of fun.  Only nine holes, but very scenic and some really strong holes.  I'll try to get a few pictures posted if you're interested.  Here's the skyline green on the par 3 4th:

John - that looks interesting. The college's website said it was just renovated by Hanse with play opening up this summer. Could be welll worth a trip.

I have played the two Hermatige courses and they were pretty nice and you could play both courses in one day.

Try Foxland Harbor or Greystone. Both solid public tracks.

Well that's a bummer. I really enjoyed that course last year. My understanding is they were bank owned for a while and had planned on going private again eventually but that was quick.
