Oak Hill PGA Pick the hole challenge

I took a look at the video clips for the 4 hole choices.
It looked to me like the strategy, according to the white dot, was to aim for the middle of the green every time.
What fun.

I guess the public chooses C - the closest to the water.

Cheers

Kudos to the PGA for trying. It's just too bad they chose the least Ross-like hole on the course, with two blind bunkers on the left.

If the USGA wants to guarantee par is well-protected without as much hand-wringing as they probably usually go through, they should adopt this policy for all hole locations on all days. The cackling from Far Hills as players blamed fans for the setup of the golf course would be audible in China.

Tim,

it's actually a very safe exercise in pubic relations because all of the most extreme hole locations have already been ruled out. of course the whole thing is being done w/o consideration of wind and wear and rain and traffic patterns, so I don't think this is a very wise way to go generally. But for one day's p.r. it's harmless.

Definitely agree, Brad. In truth I think this is a fun idea and the PGA seems to have chosen fairly prudently, as the hole seems to be a fairly one-dimensional challenge--hit a straight shot or pay dearly. Also, I would bet that the hole location that is leading is the one the PGA would have guessed would be leading. My hope would be that they'll play the hole from a forward tee that day to entice some aggression to that dicey hole location.

When they dredged the pond, they found oodles of golf balls and one intact flag and flagstick. Therefore, there is historical precedence for choosing option E), wherein the hole is located in the pond.
