Contemporaries

On yesterday's telecast Peter Alliss said he has met all but 7 winners of the Open Championship and that he's played golf with many of them.

What golf course architect would have interacted with the highest number of prominent designers?

Architects, what colleagues have you personally met?  I'd love to see lists.

WW - I'm betting it's one of the Jones brothers.

Robert Trent Jones, Sr. was the only person I've ever met who actually spent a day with Alister MacKenzie and a day with A.W. Tillinghast.

Pete Dye knew Mr. Ross a bit from Pinehurst, but not the other two.  I would think Pete has met all of the main architects of the postwar generation.

I've met a lot, because I've met so many of the Australian guys and a few of the Japanese architects ... even though there are quite a few from America I haven't met.  I've also met a lot of the 20- to 30-year-olds who I think are most likely to be the architects of the next generation, but hopefully I'll be around long enough to find out for sure.

Tom Doak: Will you name a living architect (or two) who you would like to meet but haven't?
