JR Potts, who on earth told you the greens were rolling at 15?  That's one of the most stupid things I have ever read on this site.

Probably someone who is playing in the event.

Exactly.

And Mark - I never said they were rolling 15....read what I wrote, I wrote they were rolling closer to 15 than 11.  But if that's one of the dumbest things you've read on this site, so be it.

That said, Phil apparently said that the greens were rolling at 15.  So I guess that's dumb.  What does he know anyways.  I'm sure the TV viewers know better.

Do these guys not realize that they come across as spoiled a$$hats when they bitch and moan about course setup and conditions? Pouter and Mickelson really come across like a couple of babies.

I think it's worth noting that the one guy who never seems to complain about course setup and playing conditions is Tiger. He gets mad, but he gets mad at himself. I'm not exactly the biggest Tiger fan, but I respect that he just goes about his business and plays the course as presented to him. In that way, he seems a lot like Nicklaus.

It sounds like you didn't read or listen to most of the comments...they certainly weren't across the board bitching and bashing the course or set up. They seem to be singling out a couple of holes- 15 especially- as being over the top. And most- including Poulter (who I personally hold responsible for all my Ryder Cup disappointment for the past 10 years)- were just calling for some more reasonable pin positions to better correspond to the conditions. You can have really hard and still maintain an element of fairness. These guys really do have a lot on the line.

These guys really do have a lot on the line.

I've slimmed the quote down, I hope that's okay.

"A lot on the line"?

Finish 1st, get a claret jag, loads of kudos and loads of £$£$

Finish 2nd, maybe get sympathy, gets loads of £$£$

Finish near the top, pretty similar to 2nd above.

Make the cut, a scaled down version of the above.

Please excuse the cynicism, and no slight intended, but to me the guys who have 'a lot on the line' are not the guys at the top of the field or top of the world rankings. The guys who have a 'lot on the line' are the guys struggling to make the cut, or even qualify, or even hoping to qualify, but who don't have sponsors etc but do have mortgages to pay and families to feed. Decades ago a top player remarked that even if he didn't win he'd still have steak for dinner. This is not necessarily the case for the also rans at the back of the field or trying to make a name for themselves on a mini-tour somewhere. It's all a matter of relativeness and perspective.

I did read the comments. Pouter is calling for "sensible" pin positions after calling certain positions "a joke" and needing "a windmill and a clown face." That's not bitching and moaning? Remember when he did the peacocking and complaining on the 8th tee at Pebble in the 2010 US Open? He has a track record of complaining.

I understand they have a lot on the line, but who cares. My point is, they all play the same course, so hitch up your knickers and go play. A player that bitches is doing himself no favors. In fact, I think he's simply playing into the hands of a guy like Tiger, who has to be loving that these guys are talking themselves out of it.

I gotta chuckle at this sometimes....as has been mentioned a zillion times before - golfers (unlike most of the pro sporting world) only get paid for what they produce. Play poorly, lose your game and nobody's writing you a check anymore. They're all one significant-if not freak injury away from the end of their careers.  You sound like you begrudge the guys at the top of the ladder because they make several million a year and the guys that aren't as talented or aren't performing as well don't make nearly as much and are "struggling" a bit. Is that the perspective that you're talking about? Do you really think it's all about the money with these guys? But you're right- it's all relative.
