2014 King's Putter at Chambers Bay
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:12:05 PM »
To all past and future King's Putter participants,

I would like to officially propose to host 2014 King's Putter at Chambers Bay.

As you know, Chambers Bay will be hosting US Open in 2015 and this will be good a time as any to check out this great course before the event. I hope many of you will find this as a good excuse to venture out to the great Pacific Northwest.

Here is my proposal:

5/30 (Fri) - Play 36 holes at Gold Mountain (Olympic and Cascade) - Olympic is perhaps late John Harbottle's finest course. It hosted 2006 National Pub Links championship and one of the very best mountain courses that I know. Cascade does not have the pedigree that Olympic has, but with giant evergreens lining most fairways, it is a very good representation of a majority of the courses you will find in PNW.

5/31 (Sat) - Play 18 holes at Chambers Bay in the morning and 18 holes at The Home Course - The Home Course was the sister course for 2010 US Amateur and will be the host of 2014 Women's National Pub Links Championship.

6/1 (Sun) - Play 18 at Chambers Bay in the morning

I have arranged a deal where we get one round each at GM, CB, and THC plus 2 nights stay at Hotel Murano (easily the best hotel in Tacoma) for $400. The extra rounds will probably cost about $150 or so. The entire package should be under $600.

Please let me know if you are interested. I would like to gauge how many spots I need to reserve. The date is somewhat flexible as well. If there is another date that works better, please do let me know.

If you would like to come early or leave later and enjoy other great courses around Seattle area (Sahalee, Aldarra, Wine Valley, etc) I will see what I can do to help you out. If you would like to play additional rounds at CB at a special lower rate, I may be able to arrange that as well.

The nearest major airport is SeaTac (the main airport for Seattle) and is only 30 min away from Hotel Murano. If you would like to stay in Seattle instead, let me know and I will see what I can arrange.

I hope we get a strong turn out for a special place.

In.

And I'll be hosting a get-together at my house on Saturday night, 5/24.  I make a better steak then anywhere else in Tacoma and I have a fire pit for you Dismal-philes.  I'd really like to scare the hell out of my wife with how many golf geeks we can get over here.

I have some interest.  Like Steve, it somewhat depends on work, as we usually have a firm-wide training around that time, but it should fall on the weekend before.

Richard,

Kudos to you for organizing what will no doubt be a terrific King's Putter. It appears as though I'm destined to never play in one of these as I've already committed to a trip leaving next Memorial Day weekend.

All the best,

Eric

Hmmm... I did not realize that was a Memorial day weekend.

Perhaps we should target week before. What is the general consensus?

I am not tied to these dates at all. Only qualification is that it has to be before June (the rate goes up in June). And I would like it to be late May to ensure better weather.

I know Bandon is less popular on holiday weekends, because most guys have family obligations around holidays. It would probably be best if I target a week earlier. And do people prefer Fri to sun or sat to mon?

How about the end of June when it would be warmer?

Then I could make my scheduled trip to St Andrews in May AND the KP!   ;D
