Restaurants in Aberdeen?
« on: May 30, 2013, 12:31:59 PM »
I am looking for some recommendations for good/modestly priced restaurants in the centre of Aberdeen that can cope with a table of 9.

Cheers

Sean -

In addition to gca.com, I spend some time at www.chowhound.com

Aberdeen get very little mention/discussion on the UK/Ireland chatboard. Here is a recent thread.

A little outside Aberdeen but just across the road from the entrance to Trump International is the Cock & Bull Bar Restaurant which is very good and an alternative to Trumps Temp. Clubhouse.

Struggling to think of anything I would recommend centrally at the moment.

Sean,

I quite like café 52 (http://www.cafe52.net/index.php) which is central with a quirky and fairly inexpensive bo-ho style menu...

There aren't many of this type of restaurant in Aberdeen... Some good fine dining but I guess you're not looking for that

Udny Arms with Sticky Toffee Pudding as appetizer, main course and dessert.
THE NEXT SEVEN:  Alfred E. Tupp Holmes Municipal Golf Course, Willi Plett's Sportspark and Driving Range, Peachtree, Par 56, Browns Mill, Cross Creek, Piedmont Driving Club

I asked friend

"If you are staying in town, I'd go for these...

For Fish - http://www.bistroverde.co.uk/ - Bistro Verde my favourite Fish place in town. They will also have a steak and a chicken dish for not fish fans.
Seafood - Silver Darling http://thesilverdarling.co.uk/ it's good but I think slightly overrated and quite pricey. Very good location at the beach / harbour for the summer months.
French - very authentic and top quality without being too expensive - Cafe Boheme http://www.cafebohemerestaurant.co.uk/ one of the best steaks you'll get in town.
Indian - Monsoona - claims to be a "healthy" Indian, very tasty and a good and varied choicehttp://www.monsoona.co.uk/
The Marclife at Pitfoelds - great hotel restaurant widely regarded as one of the best in town - also very expensive but good food and wine list. A little out of town, say 5-10mins.

If you don't mind a longer drive or are staying in land or a bit further North, then check out Meldrum House Hotel - Grampian Restaurant of the year for the last 2 years (and where I got married to Mrs S), or Eat on the Green a couple of AA Rosettes to its name."
Let's make GCA grate again!

If you want Indian The Nawabs Tandoori was pretty good the few times I've been there.  It seemed to be popular with the oil worker crowd.

Ditto vis a vis the Cock and Bull and also struggling to think of anywhere else that is more than medicore.....

Malmaisson is great for steaks.

I'm not sure what classifies good/moderately priced but I didn't feel abused given how good for food and service was.

When will you be there?

2011 highlights- Royal Aberdeen, Loch Lomond, Moray Old, NGLA (always a pleasure), Muirfield Village, Saucon Valley, watching the new holes coming along at The Renaissance Club.

If you and your party enjoy good old fashioned fish-n-chips head for the Ashvale near the corner of Great Western Road. Not your traditional UK 'eat out of newpaper' type chipper but a make reservation and sit down to eat place.

If you go to up to Cruden Bay I recommend you take the opportunity to play their St Olaf 9-hole course as well and, if I may ask a favour, could you post some photos of it.

Wherever you play, have a great trip.

All the best

Several replies, and nothing about golf? For shame -- Sean, make sure you bring your clubs and detour to Stonehaven for 18 holes of whacky fun. And a great old clubhouse to boot.

Sean is well aware of the delights of Stonehaven.

But considering the condition it is in nowadays, I would not recommend it to anyone.
