Mark,

Thanks for posting the update, I really look forward to hearing and seeing the progress.  There has not been a lot of “new” to talk about on here to talk about for awhile, appreciate the info.

The new course looks fabulous. I noticed on Google Maps a couple double-greens on the front nine--way cool. Also, if you look at the course on Google Maps, you can actually make out both courses. If you wanted to memorialize the first course somewhat, you might want to scan and preserve the current images. Fascinating stuff.

Mark,

Wishing you and everybody at Sutton Bay the best of luck with the new course.  I still remember my one day there and the tremendous hospitality you provided.  I'll miss those old holes, but look forward to experiencing the new course some time in the future.

Congratulations to Mark and our my friends at Sutton Bay.  Great people and great facilities.

Mark - is the par 3 course still usable?

Mark -

I had been looking at the SB site and some photos from Google Earth about a month ago and was amazed at the passing of the old and the emergence of the new.   I was lucky enough to play with Dan K (emoticon omitted) back in the Fall of 2007 and his brother Charlie.

Best of luck on the new venture.

Hi Ammo great to hear from you again.
Did any of the Aussie knuckleheads have much to do with this one or was Swampy the main man ?

Thanks to Mark's generosity, I was able to visit Sutton Bay last week as I was driving across the country toward Montana for a wedding. While this was my first trip and had never seen the original course (so I can't compare), I thought the "New" Course was fantastic. The course sits on the bluff above the old course allowing for incredible views across the lake and the various ravines, while directly exposing the player to the natural elements (I played in a 2-4 club wind as a front rolled in). The course plays very firm and fast with a lot of humps and bumps through, around, and in the greens which make approach and shots around the greens a lot of fun. Despite originally being a fairly flat site (according to this and other threads), I thought the shaping looked very natural and there was a fair amount of natural up and down movement on the back nine holes. Personally, I loved the par-3's and thought they were the standouts. The 5th hole is an awesome short par-3 with a wicked green, the 7th is a fun long one-shot hole that I needed a driver (and was still 40 yards short of the green), and the 17th is a pretty epic par-3 with it's skyline green. There is a lot of variety in the par-4's, with two very interesting and reachable 4's...one on each side (the 4th and 11th). The par-5's are neat, with the 3rd and 18th being my favorites. Overall, the golf course is really good and well worth the trip out to South Dakota for a visit.
