If there was ever a moment when I felt claustrophobic on the course, that was it. However, you come out of the chute on the next hole, back into the openness and all is well again in the world.

Hole #6 at Legends-Heathland is a four-shot hole that moves in the opposite direction of its predecessor. It can measure 461, 392, 379 or a wee 246, on how you see fit. The hole plays a sliver uphill from tee to landing area and crosses a wetland that should frighten no one. The bunker left draws you in or pushed you away, depending on your personality. It does protect the proper side for a far-right hole location, the one I found the day I played. The strength of the putting surface is in its width. You very well might hit the ball the proper distance, but an laterally-inaccurate play will leave you a nuanced approach putt.

This zoom-in gives you a better idea of what the landing area holds.



This shot comes from the right edge of the fairway/rough. The left bunker is not the one seen from the tee. It protects the left edge of the green. The right bunker in the picture sits in the middle of the green front, an example of a seeing-eye bunker that would make Lemony Snicket proud.



Here we see the flagstick, tucked behind the SE bunker.



Now we back it out a bit, to get a better sense of the walk-up.

This is a cool shot, looking left from the front tee, toward the 5th green. It doesn't exist as a hole but, like so many shots on a golf course, is still pretty tasty.

WTF have they done to my sixth hole?!

Originally the feature at the right front of the green was a mound, conceived to be like the bump in front of the 4th green at St. Andrews.

But, it was too sharp for a triplex [as is the mound on the 4th at St. Andrews], so they never mowed it to fairway height.

Then, they planted some love grass on it.

And now they've turned it into a bunker.     Perhaps Lemony Snicket likes it, but I do not.
