Irrigation System Consultants?
« on: May 21, 2013, 11:55:15 AM »
My home course is probably within 5 years of having to replace our irrigation system.  I don't know any of the technical details but am wondering if consultants exist to evaluate where we are at currently, options/time frames for replacement, and associated costs.  My goal is to have rough numbers to present to the board so we can start thinking years in advance on how to fund a project of this size/scope.  Course is Hudson National in Croton-on-Hudson NY.

Any recommendations and/or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

I called Don Mahaffey and we built one of the most efficient irrigation systems around.
Next Tom Doak called him and they built Dismal Red in large part because of what Don could do economically.
Another architect caught wind of what Don can do, and has just started a new project with him.
If I were you Brian, I'd follow our leads!
Cheers

Shirley you jest.

Though I'm partially being humorous Jeff, this assertion that a professional organization is the best place to go for experience and/or quality needs to die a quick death.  I went to the website and immediately did a spit take on the membership section.

I hope you're not trying to stir up yet another professional organization tiff.  Though I'd be happy to oblige.   ;D

Ben,

Not sure of your motive here, but in general, for those who don't know anyone, a professional society is a good place to start looking.  I understand that not all those members are equally qualified, which is why I suggested he peruse the list for golf folks.

While most of the irrigation consultants I work with are in that group, like ASGCA not all are, and I was, like you, actually surprised at some of the ommissions from the group among well know irrigation designers.

Nothing is perfect.

Golf construction & maintenance are like creating a masterpiece; Da Vinci didn't paint the Mona Lisa's eyes first..... You start with the backdrop, layer on the detail and fine tune the finished product into a masterpiece

I can't argue with Don as a choice.  I wasn't aware that he generally was involved in this work.

Brian,

We used Jim Barrett at Hackensack and were very satisfied. And he is local to your course.
