Adventures in Cartpathland no. 1
« on: April 25, 2013, 05:48:24 PM »
So, is this the wildest/funnest bit of cartpath design you ever saw?

Getting on for 10 switchbacks and a drop of around 100m, what a hoot. Proper rollercoaster. The girls were actually SCARED by the whole experience. I, on the other hand, being a most manly man, loved it!

This is the 7th hole at Aphrodite Hills, Paphos, Cyprus. A Cabell Robinson design. Americans, eh.......?

Reminds me of Ventana Canyon, where the driving is as much fun as the course.

Wolf Creek in Mesquite is as much wild and exciting cart driving as it is wild and exciting golf. I would not want to play there in anything other than clear skies as I feel wrecks would be imminent... and disastrous.

It's really not much of a cart path unless you have both switch backs and scenic turnouts.

Cabell didn't really have much choice at Aphrodite. The two plateaus where most of the golf holes are located are separated by the huge ravine. Somehow, he had to get between the two.

I was once at a golf conference where an industry insider bellowed 'Anyone could build a great course on that property' in relation to Aphrodite. It did make me laugh...

Good nomination Pete.

I took a video as we went up it.  You can hear the coins, balls and other items falling out of my pocket and off the cart behind us.  Wouldn't like to go down it.  Going up was enough 'fun' for me.

Ask not what GolfClubAtlas can do for you; ask what you can do for GolfClubAtlas.

Martin, do they have seatbelts?
My nomination for  "the best cart ride in golf" is the back nine at Canouan Golf Club (aka Trump International), the nine holes climbs up and down the spine of the island, and Jim Fazio actually built 8 superb holes, including a 300+ yard par three (tee is 800 feet above the green).  The views are outstanding, the Atlantic Ocean on one side, the Caribbean Sea on the other.  And you have one other problem, huge tortoises love using the paths and they have the right of way.

Alotian which is highly rated has a pretty ugly one.  Hard to believe it's Fazio.

The cartpaths at Cornerstone Club in Colorado (a Norman) are pretty insane.

Quite a few UK upland or moorland courses, like Church Stretton for example, might be a little bit exciting in a buggy, especially if the grass was slightly damp or the weather was bit on the foggy side.

Here’s the link to Seans splendid Church Stretton photo tour - http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,44733.0.html

All the best.

Thomas,

Strathpeffer hires buggies but has very few paths. It amazes me there have been no serious incidents.

This is the longest cart ride I have ever had between two holes.  Because it was jungle I don't have a decent picture, but there were plenty of speed bumps.  I think this video is a portion of the second half of the ride because we are going uphill.

Is that Koele? Somewhere else in Hawaii?

The drive from 9 green to 10 tee at Koele is long and steeply uphill through jungle.
