Great What-ifs in Architecture History
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:00:32 PM »
A "What-if?" is a way of getting people thinking about how a single event dramatically changed the course of things. An obvious recent one is "What if Tiger Woods' shot on 15 at The Masters hadn't hit the flagstick?"

So what are the great What-ifs in golf course architecture history, and how might things have worked out differently if they had/hadn't happened?

Some of y'all have never been called out in bold green font and it really shows.

What if courses were only 12 or 16 holes?  How would that change the classic greats that were designed?  Which holes would have not been made?

What if there was no such thing as "environmentally protected areas"?

What if bunkers were never maintained?

What if Melvyn's great grandfather was an interior decorator?

What if the original rules allowed you to lift clean and place within two club lengths anytime, anywhere?

What if grass only existed as an annual species, could not be cut less than 2", and stunk to high heaven?
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.
