Leo - how would your time be divided? Is the Supt role more management and financial or do you manage to get out on the links and get hands dirty? Good to hear of the volunteering, we had the artisans divoting once a week which works well.
Mark - I have no set division in practice. I manage my time the same way I manage the budget - I place it in the greatest area of need at any given specific time regardless of department. To give a couple of examples - we held the NZ Amateur Strokeplay two weeks ago - the success was largely going to be centred around the course and so I was on the tools morning and night. Similarly AGM tonight and I have spent the time since the storkeplay bashing around with presentations and figures. The other thing I have found is that you deal with the operation as a whole and do not tend to departmentalise it. ie I have X budget in admin so I better just spend it all so I dont "lose it next year". If its better warranted on the course or vica versa then you direct it to where its going to be most needed. Its an interesting role and it certainly keeps you "tuned in" 24/7!!
