Opening Day awaits
« on: April 01, 2013, 02:35:48 PM »
... In some places.

We were up at the American Club for the Easter weekend.  Made the jaunt over to Whistling Straits as we had some free time.  It’s still covered from a 16-inch snow storm from 2-3 weeks ago.  Photo below of #18 on the Straits Course; a piece of #10 is on the far left.

The resort initially planned to open the Meadow Valley and Irish course this upcoming weekend. Now, it looks like a mid-April.  River and Straits are planned for an April 26 opening.

For those in the Northeast and Midwest, is your course open yet?

My course opened today.  I drove past a few last week (Old Elm, Bryn Mawr) that still has some greens covered.

Isn't that a painting of Cypress Point?

Twin Cities courses well shy of Opening Day. Snow still pretty deep in places.

But the Twins play this afternoon. Windchills in the 20s. Might be our best shot at solving the Verlander problem.

We're close here in Southern Ontario - our short game facility opened on Friday and I imagine the course will open in the next day or so.  Looking forward to ending almost 6 months of hibernation!

I'm just glad that global warming resulted in our greens opening early this spring . . . . errr . . . . resulted in a warmer than normal March . . . . errr . . . . has me even more excited for when it finally warms up.

Colorado has been strange this year. I swear January was warmer than March.

This year I played on January 27 and haven't since, but I've got a tee time for Thursday morning. It is very weird having played in January and then not again until April. But it seemed like March had a snowstorm every 3-4 days.

We've been low 30s for weeks and it snowed briefly twice on Easter Sunday but that didn't stop 80 odd members including Dan Moore from Chicago, Patrick Glynn from Dublin and another fly in from Dubai for the festivities!

I've never been foolish enough to play in the snow in Chicago yet it snowed briefly 4 straight days over the long Easter weekend.  The beer was warmer than the temps.  Notwithstanding the cold the course was in very good shape, was playing pretty firm for the time of year and should be excellent in June.

Pretty soggy and brown still in Chicago. Decent spring conditions are a few weeks away at least.

Tried to play today, course still closed.  Opens Thursday.

This is driving me nuts.

It's even worse in Minnesota. Our "Opening Day" event was just pushed back to May 1!  :o

Pat:

Hop in the car and we'll do Thursday.  I figure about a six hour drive.  I know where to eat also
