Yeah, I'm with Mark S. Basically you're using the GW top 200 so you should exclude anything on the GD second 100, too.

1. Tobacco Road, NC -- unique, fun, memorable, did I mention fun? I understand its not for everybody and it has a few flaws, but it makes me want to play golf, which I can't say for a lot of championship courses.
2. South Bend CC, IN -- best course that almost no one is familiar with. I think if SBCC were in a major metro area (even Chicago) it would be on the Classic list. The back nine is better than most of the stuff I've seen that is 51-200 on the Classic list.
3. Lakota Canyon Ranch, CO -- most of the same reasons as TR. The scenery is spectacular and the golf is fun--the front nine is really good too. The back suffers from the housing component.
4. Cornerstone Club, CO -- another course that's really solid but that very few have played--pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Its cartball, but good holes in a great setting.
5. Cougar Canyon, CO -- apparently I think Colorado courses are underrated. A fairly inexpensive public course in Trinidad, CO that has some really good strategic holes and lots of ground-game interest. Better than most of Nicklaus design's more high profile courses.
6. La Quinta Mountain, CA -- again has that "fun" thing going for it. And like a few of the others I've picked, it has a great nine (the front) and another stretch (the beginning of the back) that holds it down on the ratings.
7. Desert Mountain Renegade, AZ -- two greens on many holes and two pins on the others, creates a lot of variety.
8. Warren GC at Notre Dame, IN -- not a great property, but many interesting holes and well thought out course. The holes on the east side of the property certainly have the better setting and often more interest.
9. Promontory Dye, UT -- fun setting in Park City with enough interesting holes to make this list.
10. Wedgewood, OH -- RTJ Jr. course north of Columbus that has one of the better opening stretches of any course that's not really famous. The finisher is a bit of a clunker.

Nice idea this thread. Might highlight some interesting international courses to visit.

May I suggest, so that we all 'sing from the same hymn book', that you publish a list of the 'top 200' that we can't include. Draw straws between GW/GD/GM/etc listings to decide which list to go with, but let's just go at this idea based on just one list.

Yeah, I'm with Mark S. Basically you're using the GW top 200 so you should exclude anything on the GD second 100, too.

It looks like Mark's list excludes all courses in the GOLFWEEK top 200 modern and 200 classic = 400 courses from the GOLFWEEK lists alone.  That takes up an awful lot of suspects.

I'm surprised that Tobacco Road has not made any of these lists at all.

The only other one that came quickly to mind is Metacomet in Rhode Island, a very good Donald Ross course on a really nice piece of property.

Eagle Creek, Indianapolis - The original 18 is a great example of mid-career, pre-Sawgrass Pete Dye.
Broadmoor CC, Indianapolis - Fine example of how a thoughtful restoration, courtesy of RD's master plan, can uncover a gem that had been covered by trees.
Gold Mountain, Bremerton, Washington - Cool muni that has hosted the U.S. Public Links and U.S. Junior. It was the first place I noticed the strategic advantage of a preferred line of play on a course with abundant width.
South Bend CC - What Andy said earlier
The Short Course at Cambrian Ridge, Greenville, Alabama - The best par 3 course I've been on. A fun place to gamble.

Bethpage Red is my favorite not listed.  I've never understood how it doesn't get a higher ranking (even among best in state publics).

Tobacco Road...awesome...can't believe it is not at least T200 Modern.

I had to revise my choices because several were on the off-limits list.  So, here's my alternate take::

Congress Lake (a fine Ross that gets overlooked because it's close to Canton Brookside)
OSU - Scarlet (I know it has many detractors, but I still love it)

In no order whatsoever,

Adams Mountain Country Club, Eagle, CO-  I am not that big of a Weiskopf fan, but this course is pretty good, some bland holes, but a lot of good holes on the back nine along brush creek.  

Vista Valley Country Club, Vista, CA- This is a pretty good Ted Robinson golf course, the valley it is set in is very pretty with a bunch of oak trees, and a creek meandering through the golf holes on the front nine.

Redlands Country Club, Redlands, CA-  Norman MacBeth design that is pretty good with a lot of good golf holes, I could envision myself being a member there and never getting tired of that course.

Trophy Club, Lebanon, IN- Tim Liddy at his finest, this course is awesome and deserves a lot more respect.  Quite a good property considering.

Desert Island Country Club, Rancho Mirage, CA-  Many probably haven't played this course, but it is a pretty good Desmond Muirhead track, tons of strategy off the tee, and the greens are Muirhead at his finest. Very easy walking course, and another course I could be a member at.  

Tacoma Golf and Country Club, Tacoma, WA-  Other than the new three holes that were built recently, the course has great topography, awesome greens, beautiful, and undergoing a good restoration.

Seattle Golf Club, Seattle, WA-  Once again this course is hardly talked about, but is a very fun golf course.  It is just the perfect distance and makes it more fun as opposed to tough.  Lots of elevation change, makes it very fun.  

Sand Hollow Golf Resort, Hurricane, UT-  It wasn't one Andy's List of courses to exclude, so that means I will include it.  This course was a blast to play, had awesome views, and great holes along the canyon on the back nine.  The whole facility was very nice.  Supposedly I heard they are going to add on another nine to the links course, which would make this facility top notch.  

Hillcrest County Club, Los Angeles, CA-  A Willie Watson design in LA, that gets overlook often compared to the LA greats.  But if you get an invite, it is well worth a play.  Feel like a king when you are playing in the middle of LA, looking up at all the tall buildings.  

Idaho Club, Sandpoint, ID-  This is a Jack Nicklaus design that is blasted through rock on the front nine and then built along a winding river with elk swimming on the back nine.  Very tough golf course, but is pretty fun and gorgeous scenery.

In no particular order...and you'll notice my Indiana bias:

Broadmoor CC - fantastic Ross with a great set of green complexes. As Kevin mentioned, it's really came back to life after someignifivant tree clearing

Trophy Club - a lot has been said of this one

Rock Hollow - another really good Liddy design.  Unfortunately pretty much in the middle of nowhere

Porto Cima - a Jack Nicklaus signature design but nothing new or out of the ordinary. But over some wild terrain and right on Lake of the Ozarks

Fripp Island Ocean - an old school Oceanside layout by George Cobb. Really fun and some really cool holes.

Kampen Course - Pete Dye at Purdue. Brutal if you play the wrong tees but really fun, some stuff you won't find at any othe Pete Dye course
