The course is owned by a municipality. It is in a transition zone (bermuda fairways, bent greens and some use of cool season grasses in the out roughs). The native soil is almost exclusively sand. Consequently, there is no pipe or gravel in any of the greens (they are built out of native material), and only a couple of the bunkers have required drainage. Toward the end of the construction we are going to incorporate some "sand scapes" similar to the idea C&C implemented at Pinehurst #2. Prior to the renovation the previous operator had tried to expand the irrigation system and turf areas of the course with limited success. We want to return it to its native character and reduce the irrigated foot print.
Tom,
The bunker edging has only just started so in all but two of the pictures the bunker lines are not visible. They were marked this week and edging is a very easy operation in the sand so another update should give you a better idea of what the final look will be. Further, the lines are by no means final.
Rick,
Thanks for your restraint in not revealing the answer. The topographic relief in the dunes is approximately 70 to 80 feet.
