Stupid question but is it possible the trees there today are the ones in that picture?

Which trees? I can't figure out that picture at all.

If you took about two clubs too many and smoke it over the left corner of the green you'd land about where this camera is.

The trees on the right side of the picture are just off the front-left edge of the green. Any chance today's trees were that tall in 1936?

Steve, thanks for the pics

A = appox location from where the 1930s pic was taken (old ball drop)

B = appox location of new back tee for 15

C = The big trees at the right of the 1930s pic (behind 15 tee)

Golf construction & maintenance are like creating a masterpiece; Da Vinci didn't paint the Mona Lisa's eyes first..... You start with the backdrop, layer on the detail and fine tune the finished product into a masterpiece

Alan,

Not a problem, thanks for the mark up, funny how these photos are close to capturing that location but not quite.  I wonder if the front bunker had the same character in 1936 as the one pictured, it must have I guess.  It is a nice look but not the untamed character so often attributed to PVGC.

Cheers,
Steve

 8) ;D ;)

Pat Gert talked of the two overhanging pine trees front left of the green.  Right side of the original picture being discussed. Funny but those trees may overhang a little more, but I'm not sure. They look exactly as they did in 1978 ...1990....and 2012. I checked out the lifespan of these pines and it appears they live approximately 150 years , so it appears they are mature and long time residents , what a nice place to hang out !

Archie,

Pat , I really have no idea.  Next time I talk to the golf pros Ill try to get a handle on  it.  Never saw them but obviously they protect the tee.

Pat,

Early 2000's. I caddied there through 1999 and don't think they were there but the next time I went back they were I believe.

Looking at the current picture, I want to take a chainsaw in the night and start whacking down trees!
Anyone else feel the same?
