Borrowing the Doak scale
« on: March 23, 2013, 09:22:11 AM »
http://www.davidpartridgedesign.com.php53-4.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/course-ratings/

Lifting an uncredited "Doak" scale in its entirety and writing:

"My ratings system is devised around the principal of judging each course on a number of factors; playability, aesthetics, condition, routing, history and ambiance, the course is marked on each and then the total calculated to give me a score out of ten. You’ll find my rating at the end of each review and what the numbers mean below."

Is this OK ???

I believe the term is plagiarism: appropriating the written work of another as your own. Had he simply given proper attribution, I think he'd be okay -- even though the only person who can provide a Doak rating is Tom Doak!

I find it troubling that some folks feel the need to assign everything a Doak rating.

I don't think "borrowing" is the proper term here.

I just emailed him. When I read the thread-opener, I thought you were making a molehill out of a molehill. Then, I saw that he actually stole every word that TD uses in the scale. I guess I'm on a copyright crusade today.

He gave Tenby a Partridge 7. Can't say I disagree with him.

I'm going to tune in to North Norfolk Digital on Monday to see if his brother Alan will talk about this on Mid Morning Matters.

Thanks for the free legal defense, Paul.

I thought you had just started a thread about others on this site proclaiming courses as a "Doak 7" because THEY think it's a 7.

Wouldn't his actions of blatantly stealing Tom's exact words make you question his integrity to do ANY business with him?

I don't know this guy at all so if anyone does, please chime in but what he did was slimy.

It would appear that someone has made him aware of this 'indiscretion' as the article in question has since been removed.

Weird deal. He copied it word for word? And didn't think he would get caught? Very strange....
