the number of drivers Tiger hits in one round at the US Open.  I have set it at 4.  What say you GCA?

Good number...3.5 would be better.

I'll take the under.

#'s 4, 5 and 6 with 12 and 18 as options.

Too much OB right

He hits a three iron stinger like 270... If I were him I wouldn't even carry a driver.

I'll take the under and I agree 3.5 should be the number

So they've eliminated so much width in the name of testing driving that they've eliminated it? ::) ::) ::) :o :o

Put me down for under 4.

Tiger should probably have a custom 3 wood made,  with about 11 degrees of loft.

Not a bad strategy as that will be the widest area of short grass ;)

I like this idea. He seems to hit his fairway woods and 2 iron fantastic, so carry a strong 3 wood, a 5 wood, AND a 2 iron.

Here are his actual specs..Crazy that his loft on the driver is 11.

The effective loft is lower...look at how open the face is.

I'll take the under on 4.

All-

I caddied there, (not that I'm expert) but I think the number is 4..thus, that's why I set the over/under at 4.  If I did 3.5, alot of folks would've taken 4.

My guess is, #2, #5, #14, #18 (maybe)

Because of what they did to #4, I'm not sure it makes sense to hit driver.

I'm not recommending it, but I would not be surprised at all to see them try to drive the 10th (the last day of the Walker Cup the tees were moved up to tempt the fellows and most were; a couple of guys hit high shots with hybrids and were able to hold the green; most were not successful) and a few maybe the 1st hole.  But I think somehow if the 1st hole was somewhere else in the routing more might try it.

It means open..but you usually don't see them measured in Degrees like 2 3/2...why not put 3 1/2?

Tiger didn't use a driver on the par 4 #6 at Olympic last year...the toughest hole relative to par I think on Tour last year and one where it is inconceivable to mere mortals that one would use anything less than a #1 wood off the tee from the back tee added for the Open.  That is why I take the under.

Woods played one (1) Driver all week en route to his 06 Open win at Hoylake which was masterful...it was on #16, on Friday I think.

The turf was nearly hardpan, and so it was more feasible, given that his 4-iron (more frequently teed than even 3w) often rolled out to 240-60+ yards.

Given the relative distance/control that he can play his 5 and 3ws...if he's in form with those clubs, he'll pick the course apart, imo.

cheers

John,

I only said 3.5 because there's no push and to me it's inconcievable that he'd hit 5 drivers.

I disagree with you on #'s 2 and 14 because his driver goes right and that's death on those two holes.

I can't imagine him using driver on #2 with OB so close on the right. He gets home in two there without driver. The only possibles I see are #4, #5, #14, #18. I would bet the Under. I can see him going with zero, considering how far he hits the three wood. If it does not rain I think three would be the max.

Zero.  Stingers 270 down the ribbon all day and let everyone else throw up all over themselves.  The thing that separates Tiger is that he can play bomb and gouge when needed and he can play connect the dots golf and out-think everyone else when needed.  Going to be a very interesting tournament to watch for once.

Thanks guys-good replies...I think it may be unprecedented the amount of drivers that will be hit for a us open.

also, if Tiger's driver is set to an open position, doesn't that increase his loft, not make it stronger?

Wouldn't it be funny if El Tigre didn't carry a driver at the tourney, sort of like Hogan didn't carry one short iron (a 7?) in 1950 b/c he said there was no place it was required.
