I think that 130 yards, for a healthy, middle-aged dude, is no more than a 8-iron on a given day. Could be a wedge or a 9, depending on jacked-up lofts.
I'd be willing to drop the max distance another 7 yards, from 132 to 125. That should get it into the 9-iron-max range. The idea is, you step up to the tee and think that you are about to hit a pitch shot and that there is no way you should miss the green.
I did mention the hole at Dormie in the initial post, but my allusion was brief and uninspired (since I didn't get to play the hole.) This is the type of hole that I love on a golf course. If you give me a challenging pitch par three and an inspired short par four, I'm one-ninth of the way to bliss.
Toss in a par five that guarantees me an eagle (are there any of those?) and I'm giddy.
