If all 18-holes holes were par-4's
« on: March 14, 2013, 03:52:24 PM »
I posted a link a little while ago speculating if all 18-holes were par-3's.

Now here's bigger sister - what holes would you choose if all 18-holes were par-4's?

The only rule is that you must have actually played each hole.

Here's mine -

1 Royal Aberdeen – tee immediately in front of clubhouse window, OB left, gorse right, the green, the sea and usually loads of ships in the distance. Glorious start.
2 Whittington Heath – heather, cross bunkers, split level green with right side lower than left
3 Tenby – Where do you lay-up? Small green slopes significantly from back to front. Deadly severe hollows on both sides.
4 Royal St Georges – yip, the hole with the huge high fairway bunker, but it’s the 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th shot that’ll most likely catch you out
5 Cruden Bay – high tee, valley fairway, dune left side of narrow entrance to green
6 Beau Desert – downhill, looks just sooo innocent and easy, evil, evil green, miss right or long and you are just dead
7 Murcar – over the burn and dog-legging left all the way around a large gorse covered bank.
8 Muirfield – dog leg right, bunkers everywhere
9 Golspie – ridge starting on the left then crosses the fairway, heather everywhere, narrow entrance to green
10 Dartmouth – drive over a huge gully towards a vertical rock face, uphill to a raised green
11 Copt Heath – narrows the further you go, very small two level raised green with OB close on the right
12 Southerness – dog-leg right, green right above the beach
13 Royal Porthcawl – dog-leg left over a blind brow, deep gully in fairway, green slopes heavily downwards from front to back
14 Dornoch – an obvious choice but a terrific hole, shows what can be done without any bunkering, bump-'n'-run time
15 Blackwell - high tee, dog-leg right, raised and severely sloped green
16 Saunton East – left, left and left again
17 TOC – the obvious choice, but it’s such a unique and special hole
18 Carnoustie – snaking burn, OB all along the left and very close to the green, an evil but terrific finish

Lots of very valid candidates have been left out simply because they happen to have the same hole number as a hole I've included.

I've also tried to have a spread of holes from throughout England, Wales and Scotland.

And, I’ve only been influenced by my own cliché “it’s the view, not the course” twice - the 1st and 12th - although I think they're super holes in their own right - so only a tiny bit of double standards on my part!

All the best

The golf House Club at Elie has 16 par 4's... ranging from 257 yards to 485 yards, and it's one of the most fun golf course I've ever seen
