Anyone had the chance to review this book. I'd love to hear thoughts on it?

Emile -

I started a thread on this book last week. I don't think anyone has actually seen the book yet.

I was able to flip through it a while back at East Lake (featured in the book).  This is a larger version, including some international clubhouses, of Diedrich's 19th Hole book).  I have the first book and recommend getting this one as it is a more comprehensive study of clubhouses.

My copy arrived today.

I would have liked more on the history and development of golf clubhouses but there is just a small introduction of about 3 pages and then there are 45 profiles. There is also a foreword by Jack Nicklaus and a rather poor poem by RTJ, Jr. called, "Ode to the Clubhouse."

Each profile has some very well done photographs and a very short write-up of about 5 or 6 paragraphs. No floor plans but there is a nice watercolor site plan of each clubhouse, done by the author, that shows the relationship of the building to the course's starting and finishing holes, practice areas, etc. It's a coffee table book.

There are some surprising omissions such as NGLA, Rviera, Seminole, Skibo, Garden City, Royal Troon, and North Berwick.

David - RT? Frightfully sterile, certainly not an omission. Don't forget the likes of National and Seminole were well covered in Legendary Golf Clubs.

Mark,
I've never even been to RT but I know it shows up on lists of best clubhouses.  NGLA andSeminole are in the Legendary Clubs of the East but so are Shinnecock, Merion, Oakmont and Newport, all of which have entries in the Clubhouses book.
