Only One Near Tampa
« on: March 14, 2013, 09:13:02 PM »
Need to be in Tampa for a one day meeting in early April and debating on whether to fly in a bit early and sneak in a round of golf.  I will not have a full day as I will be flying in the morning of playing and thus logistics are important.

While Streamsong pops to the top of the list, would probably prefer to go there when I can get at least 36 holes in.

So what are the collective thoughts?  Will work on access after getting recommendations.

Assuming Old Memorial, Mountain Lake, Concession will rise up, where else?

Thanks.

If Mountain Lake and Concession are near Tampa, take the Veterans north from the airport when you land and go play The Dunes or World Woods.

Dan,

It depends on how much time you have.  When are you arriving?

i am a fan of belleair country club.  it is on the intercoastal waterway between largo and clearwater.  they have 36 holes over there and i would play the west course.  if the east was the only option available i'd pass.

I'm with Frank.  Give us your specific time frames.  You can get to Streamsong as quickly as Concession or Mountain Lake.  Where is your meeting?   Old Memorial is your best bet, but unaccompanied play this time of year is a tall order.  Every national member is down here for the next month.  Belleair is not worth the drive.

Thanks for the insight so far.  Earliest I can land is 11ish at TPA on Sunday and have a meeting early Monday AM, will be staying in St. Pete.

I would go to Streamsong if you don't mind the drive (80 to 90 minutes from the airport).  Depending on how busy Streamsong is that day you may even be able to play 27 - 36.

If you are not keen on driving that far, then there are some options in town like Old Memorial which is an awesome experience on a solid golf course.  The Concession is over an hour away from the airport, but since you are staying ini St. Pete, the return trip wouldn't be as long.  Palma Ceia is an option as Mark has mentioned.

World Woods is an hour north of the airport, but an 90 minutes from St. Pete.

If you are looking to play the best course in the area, however, your best bet is Streamsong.
