Admittedly this is a niche subject that might be better suited to PM...

Still, I'm looking for a good base / hotel and good secondary courses somewhere between West Sussex (Pulborough) on Saturday and Royal Ashdown Forest on Monday... 16 of us

Brighton is too expensive on a bank holiday weekend so was looking at Worthing and a toss-up between Worthing Golf Club (Colt) and Hill Barn Golf Club (Fred Hawtree).... Anyone know those two courses?.... Or have a better suggestion for golf and/or accommodation / town to stay in?

Ally sounds like a good trip.

Sorry can’t really think of staying recommendations, you are choosing one of the most expensive parts of GB. (Having said that Brighton is FUN).

Perhaps the best for travel would be Pyecombe where Longhurst kept the bar jolly.

Riegate heath has changed the 7&8th since Tom Doak said they spoilt it’s chances of being a contender for best 9 holer.  There are two sets of tees for most holes so it shouldn’t feel like one.

The Addington? Prediction. 1 will absolutely love it and some of the others will be saying this is the last trip Ally gets to organise….

Worthing is a good downland course as is The Dyke just north of Brighton.
As mentioned Crowborough Beacon is very good as is Piltdown.

Thanks all (and to Sean who sent me an informative PM)...

We managed to get somewhere to stay in Brighton after all... We already had Crowborough Beacon booked on the way down for Friday (although I may be slipping off to The Addington because I've never seen it)... So the idea for Sunday is get a course as close to Brighton as possible meaning minimum travel...

Worthing is only 10 minutes away so I may go with that... Hill Barn (right next door) looked like well placed bunkering which was what piqued my interest...

But I'm off now to Google Earth your other suggestions for distances...

I had a quick mooch round Worthing GC recently, and the Colt course looks quite nice. If in the area,I think I'd give that a try. On the chalk down, so the drainage will be really good.

Not Mitchelin standard but service, quality, value for money and location all well above average.  They are big enough to take a group.

Hollingbury is a very good Brighton municiple so access should be easy and it's well worth a knock. Don't miss Crowborough for Addington, both are fine courses and worth playing. For the best breakfast/lunch in town head for Billies in Upper North Street for massive cornbeef hash dishes served in many different combos. Its tiny so you wont all get in together.

It appears Ally is looking for a course on the Sunday of a bank holiday weekend. I can make loads of suggestions but a quick phone call will state "members only". It's fine suggesting great tracks but access is the issue.

Part of it is, the other part is in Hampshire!

If you were staying nearer Pulborough it would be within reach as would Hindhead, Hayling and Blackmoor, but from Brighton its a bit of a stretch and as Mark says access on a bank holiday Sunday for 16 might be an issue.

Thanks again all... Hollingbury also seems to have some interesting bunker placements on google earth and it being close by and cheap and available is a distinct possibility... Do you know if it had any architectural input of note, Mark?.... Tony - I will look in to those Brighton recommendations also

Along similar lines regarding an alternative style, given that you ave RAF and West Sussex in the bag, Hayling would give a links option. Worthing remains the better option geographically though.
