Is that a disease? Is that like confusing a bunker for a green? You're the one who calculated the exact elevation, windage and yardage not to avoid the DA but to get into it---right?

Come on Tommy, DSL is just some arcronym for some mental deficiency--right? I mean, it doesn't sound much different to me than when Jackie called her mother, Mrs Auchincloss, and said, "Im in bed with mononucleosis" and her mother told her; "Jackie, I told you to stop fraternizing with those Greeks!"

I've been gone a while and didn't know your life had been altered electronically.  AS for me, I need to get some geek at "roadrunner" to walk me through getting my own home page.  If I could readily post pictures, you guys would be in trouble!  Like today, when I took about 100 pics of the Seth Raynor designed, Blue Mound Country Club and was blown away at how big and bold it is.  I'll have to start a new thread on that.  A must see.... :o

Daryl, Its wireless, so I can hopefully even get internet access on the road in a storm in Whitewater!

(A gross fabrication. I can only get it to the whitewater running in my pool!)

If you had cable your life would have REALLY changed!  I went from cable to DSL at home and it was a definite downgrade even though I'm close to the relay or whatever you call it!

Unfortunately, my palace in Guada La Habra is too far away from having cable internet access, unless I decide to go with Adelphia, which I will not let them get one dime of money from me--if I even had it!

This however is just fine....at least for the time being!

Whew...I thought you had some sort of dream/nightmare that convinced you to play the rest of your golf at Fazio courses in So Cal. Oak Creek for the rest of your life........
I don't know how I would ever have been able to look into the past with any degree of pleasure or enjoy the present with any degree of contentment if it had not been for the extraordinary influence the game of golf has had upon my welfare.

Your next step is to get Tivo or Replay TV. Then you will have your entire life under control.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Now that you are truelly "up to speed."  How about a few pics from Friar's?  I am not sure if you had posted any from there yet.  But, I would love to see a few.

Tommy:

"Getting off the computer faster" is the first stage of high-speed addiction. Next comes "Now I've got time to check out another site or two," followed by "I can't believe how much stuff there is on the web," which leads to, "Oh, s--t, I was supposed to pick up the kids."

Rick, Something like that has already happened yesterday!

I was supposed to call David Moriarty last night and tell him if I was going to Rustic or not today, and of course forgot! In fact, I didn't remember it until about an hour ago!

Whoooooopppppssssssss!

Quick question for all you guys:  I am going to be going high speed myself, and want to know which is better, cable or DSL, and why?  I have both available where I live.

Mitchgolfs,

Both DSL and cable are a vast improvement over dial up. Indeed, they ARE life changing. Primary concern is price, in my opinion. I find DSL reliable, though you have to pay more to get more speed (at least with Verizon). I have the lowest speed DSL, and I still find it more than fast enough. Best news: Verizon just lowered my monthly price 30% ( to $35/month) to compete better with Time Warner's cable package.

Keep in mind that the cable company may give you very good complete package deals that include regular or digital TV. Verizon gave me a package deal that includes my land line phone service. There's a lot to consider. But you're bound to be satisfied.

Mitchgolfs,

Here are my 2 cents on Cable vs DSL

Speed: Cable ror the most part it offers much faster downloads than DSL (2 megs per second) but has limited uploads (300 KB per second). So if all your doing is viewing websites then upload speed means nothing.

Price: Your cable company will usually offer you a discount if you already have cable tv.

Shared versus dedicated: Cable modem is a shared medium in that you share your capacity with all your neighbors and if you have a lot of neighbors with cable modem then your speed will suffer at times. DSL is a dedicated channel with usually guaranteed service levels.

Static versus dynamic IP addresses: Cable is usually a dynamic IP addresss so you can't run a website at your home if that's want you want. You can get a static IP for more money though. DSL is usually a static IP.

So it depends on what you want to use it for and who gives you the better deal. Both are awesome and I wouldn't give up my cable modem for anything.  You won't be disappointed either way.

Craig, Thanks for adding that.

Up until now, I have felt I was getting less then, because of the Cable thing. I choose not to do business with Adelphia simply because of issues in the past I have had with them regarding the promise of digital cable. It took them 9 years after the first set of lies, and it got worse and worse. Every year they promised digital cable televsion would be on-line, up and running in June. Meanwhile, my parents who live less then four miles away have had digital cable working like a dream for almost that entire time.

When they finally did get digital cable here in La Habra, They had exactly 54 channels for the same price as my parents, and that consisted of 1-HBO; 1-Showtime; 1-Cinemax; 1- Encore and 1-Starz premium channels. They had some, not all, second tier channels, and the service was not only down quite frequently, the signal was horrible.  I could go on, but it would be futile. Slower bandwidth is more then welcomed, just so I never have to do business again with Adelphia Cable. As it looks, I'm even paying more for it! GLADLY!

So, just a quick note, I have DSL, it is plenty fast enough for me. Once in a while, I may have a three second wait. No more then that.

I'm also not getting the best speed from my DSL, on my notebook, because I'm using a wireles router indoors. But the cool thing about it is, as I type this, I'm sitting by the pool! ;D

(This is somethig more to torture Dick Daley with during those warm Green Bay winters!)
