Nanea
Barnbougle (not sure if time/life will ever allow to get there, but maybe).
Sand Hills

Most of my genie wishes would be like "allow me a month to play all the good courses in Australia" or "allow me a month to play all the good courses in England."  Only one course in those places might not be the end-all, but playing all 15 greats would definitely be so.

I've been lucky to play in Scotland, Ireland, Hawaii, all over the US, Bermuda, etc.

I have a New England category for the genie...

Bald Peak
Sankaty
Sakonnet
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

Himalayan Golf Course - the pictures got my juices going and the sense of adventure appeals to me

Morfontaine- I like France and the course is suppose to be ok :)

Crystal Downs- I'm never in Michigan so if the genie can sort out that part for me I'll deal with the other logistics.
2011 highlights- Royal Aberdeen, Loch Lomond, Moray Old, NGLA (always a pleasure), Muirfield Village, Saucon Valley, watching the new holes coming along at The Renaissance Club.

Ooooohhh, I don't like the idea of dropping in on Pine Valley and changing on the bumper.  I would go for courses which are not so oriented around a cool house/history.

Wolf Point
Crystal Downs
Machrie

New plays planned for 2025: Machrihanish Dunes, Dunaverty and Carradale

I'm going The Old Course, Pine Valley, and Royal Melbourne. Cypress Point just misses and I have played Sand Hills and Wolf Point or else they'd have made my 3.

Wow, having a chip on my shoulder lately about this game.
Injury and health ended my playing days.
Bashing my head against the wall in what has become a corporate world of golf.
left me grumpy as hell.

Then I realized when I thought about this thread...

I've been given the opportunity to travel the world, play,
and my appreciated answer to this thread, is that I've played the 3 courses I want to!

I was thinking about Crail, etc. this fall - but this the one above might be the better alternative with Machrahanish

The obvious choice would be the original Lido, though I would be just as happy to caddy there for Robert Gardner or Cyril Tolley. If I'm going to hallucinate, it might as well be in full Strawberry Fields technicolor blast.

Next, the magic Genie is going to take me back in time to play the original Sharp Park - with Alister Mackenzie. I'll wear knickers and smoke a pipe, that way he might not notice I'm from the future. I'll have to bone up on hitting hickory shafts - I cannot see pulling out a Rocketballz driver and Pro V1 on the first tee.

And finally, my fondest golfing wish is to play the original Pacific Links Course at Olympic, circa 1927. I still dream about it - tumbling down the sandy cliffs below Fort Funston, with the waves roaring and crashing as the fog cascades over the bluffs.

The Genie is going to do me one more favor . . . . . I want to play the Ocean Course of my youth just once more. Let's make it 1975 - late on a summer afternoon with Guy Young, Mike Allen and Todd Hagen. That golf course was erased when the ground beneath the 6th tee let go in 1982. The Ocean Course of today is a fine layout, but if I could swing my persimmon driver just once more - with my life still in front of me, not knowing how things would finally turn out - the darkness in my heart might lift, even if for only a moment.

The Genie relates that time travel is permitted, but asks that for ease of conjuring (he was in a bottle for 1000 years), you pick three contemporary - existing tracks.  He too would have to rely on historic aerials, the Daily Eagle and anecdotal evidence to comply with older requests - and you might not be happy with the results of his interpretation.

The Genie further notes to hold your horses, he will return again and grant other wishes related to golfing/GCA whims.

cheers

Okay, be that way:

Prestwick - 1860, original 12 hole course.

Brookline - 1913 incarnation. I'll caddy for Ted Ray.

Shinnecock Hills - 1923, 18 hole Raynor version - before the road went in.

This presses the envelope a bit, but technically, all these courses exist today.

Let's throw in Augusta National 1935 - Mackenzie version.

1. Crystal Downs (not sure I've ever met a member from there; it looks fantastic!)

2. Augusta National (because it is impossible to get on and you will have those memories stirred every April on tv)

3. Pebble Beach (because I'm not sure I will ever pay that much for golf; I'm also sure the genie will clear the course and I'll play in under 5.5 hours)

You guys ever watch "Midnight in Paris"...that Woody Allen movie with Owen Wilson?  I loved that movie.  I'm sure others will be looking back saying similar things about our current crop of modern courses.  Nevertheless, I am with you guys on a lot of these courses.
