Wine Valley - first day reports
« on: February 28, 2013, 05:53:38 PM »
I am thinking about organizing a weekend outing to Wine Valley (Walla Walla. WA) either the last weekend in March or the last weekend of April, or both. Golf would be Saturday noonish and Sunday morning. Greens fees in March are $45, April $85. Tyring to gauge interest. On the April date I could probably rope in some of my club members. There might be some stay and play packages which could lower the price.

We have tee times on June 1-2., the weekend after Memorial Day.  1:50, 2:00 and 2:10 on Saturday. 8:00 and 8;10 on Sunday morning. Please IM/PM me if you can make it. Bonus, the Walla Walla Sweets Rollergirls are jamming. Whitman College students will have left. Wine spring releases are the previous weekend.

The Essigs are staying at the Hampton Inn, which has a stay and play package. Since everyone is responsible for their own golf/lodging this may be a good option. ME is also setting up saturday night dinner at Brasserie Four, let him know if you can't make it or are coming with s.o./spouse

Players:
Peter Pittock
Bob Jenkins
Slag Bandoon (N Painter)
Mike Christensen

Richard Choi - Sat only
Victor Santodomingo - Sat only
BMichael Essig
Matthew Essig

Brent Carlson - Sat only

Pete,
If I was still in Oregon, I would be there in a second. As it is, I am already using up all of my wife's good will on other golf outings. :D

My father and I are interested, but we will have to check that nothing is going on.

Garland, the weather has been so strange this winter that our camellias and azaleas are blooming at the same time, right now!

Not keen to drive 4 hours to play in rain/cold... I will be in for a summer outing.

Pete,

Wine Valley is on my list, but that timing just doesn't work.

Pete,

I'd be in for a summer / early fall event.  What we've done in the past is leave early from Seattle, play 36 and be home by 10.  Wine Valley is a blast to play.

Pete, I'd like to join in on the fun, depending on timing. While I'm a big enough fan of Wine Valley to bear both the drive and the cold, I, too, have a preference toward late summer or early fall. Thanks for asking.

Since "winter" gets over sooner there than here, I would expect their blooming seasons to overlap, but not necessarily be the same. Hopefully our weather will be better this year than last when a very cold snowy March made the arthritis take residence in my hands until almost July and pushed our camellia bloom very late.

It looks like this is deferred to later in the year, when it will be more expensive and harder to get on. NOAA says our 90 day forecast is below average temperatures and slightly below  precip.

Hi Pete!

Please keep me in mind if you are able to organize an outing for Wine Valley. I played it last September and I would go back in a flash.

Maybe we can even convince MacEwan to come along to play in his "wifebeater"

Pete, Sounds great. I've been trying to find time to get back out there.  April sounds more doable for this nomad.

That settles it. Slagbert gets to set the date, I'll do the rest of the work. Maybe he can get company for the drive from John Day.

I thought the Slagster was shaping bunkers at Mid Pines.  That's a much longer drive!

Didn't hear that. I thought he would be at Silvies, which is about 4 hrs from Wine Valley.

Pete:

How far a drive is it from Portland?  I've got to go through Portland at the end of the month and might try to get out there.

I'm definitely interested (I love Wine Valley)...I'll know more soon.  Is there any interest in adding a day at Palouse Ridge as well?

I'm Interested. I could see doing a road trip that lasted 3 days this spring. I'm pretty much occupied all summer so I couldn't do it then.

Tom,
WV is four hours from Portland according to Mapquest. Probably closer to 3.5 hrs. Let me know.
Jay,
Palouse Ridge is an additional 2:15 from Wine Valley, which only helps if you're flying from Boise or Spokane. Thats either add-a-day or subtract a round at Wine Valley
